Project Space Leeds (PSL) introduces the work of acclaimed international light and sound artist Hans-Peter Kuhn to Leeds for the first time in an exhibition of 40 stunning, large scale, panoramic images by Berlin-based photographer and collaborator, Gerhard Kassner. 'Licht auf Licht' (Light on Light) shows Kuhn's work from around the world, transforming urban landscapes and industrial architecture, beautifully captured by Kassner, into photographic artworks in their own right. Hans-Peter Kuhn is recognised internationally for transforming urban spaces and changing perspectives and he is a key member of the design team behind the rejuvenation of Neville Street and Leeds' newest piece of public art. Hans-Peter Kuhn and Gerhard Kassner met 15 years ago while working in the theatre. Kuhn asked Kassner to photograph his work and has never asked anyone else since. By documenting his installations in both gallery and non-gallery settings, Kassner gives a unique perspective on Kuhn's work while the photographs themselves are artistically striking. ![]() Lichterfeld, Brandenburg (2003) 'Licht auf Licht' has been co-curated by freelance curator Katy Rochester and PSL. Kerry Harker, co-curator at PSL commented: "This is a fantastic opportunity to show the work of such an internationally important artist, who has transformed urban spaces across the world, just before he does the same here in Leeds." "In showing this selection of Gerhard Kassner's arresting photographs of Hans Peter Kuhn's work, we are able to exhibit two stand-out artists and their fascinating collaboration - both with each other and also with Leeds itself." Theatre director and former colleague Robert Wilson is equally enthused: "It's always very curious how the world that I have imagined and created can be turned upside down by the added independent element of Kuhn's work."
