Iguana Bonaire
Iguana Bonaire by Ian Watkinson

Image conscious

Ian Watkinson is a photographer based in Otley - read more about him and check out some of his work...

Ian Watkinson gives us some background information on what made him a photographer:

"I am 53 years old, resident of Otley for 25 years, and I've been taking photographs since I was 11 years old. I first developed and printed black and white images in my fathers garden shed when I was about 13 years old.

I have recently abandoned my chemical processing and dark room in favour of digital processing and rarely use my film cameras, which are Olympus 35mm and Mamiya Medium format.

I am a Company Director (semi-retired), and have been a computer and network engineer for over 25 years. My love of photography is directed primarily at capturing magical moments in far away lands.

Over the years I have spent many months in India taking photographs, and also in finding the essence of the abstract and 'unreal' in everyday situations and scenarios and trying to capture that sense in an image to portray it to others.

I have been influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Raghubir Singh amongst many other wonderful image makers".
