13. A bird darts out of every flock
They all left. They have all gone and I am ready to go too! The planet is dying. This planet is barely alive. It’s barely alive. Barely alive. The planet is polluted. We have polluted the planet. We ate everything there was on the planet. We drank everything there was on the planet. And the planet is angry now; the planet is very angry. The planet is dissatisfied; the planet is grumpy. There are storms every day. Every single day.
The planet is grumpy, temperamental. That’s our fault; the anger is our fault. The bad weather and the disaster are our fault. We ate and we drank and we took and we cut and we stole everything valuable on the planet. Without permission. Without sense. Without stop. Without stay. Without thinking. Without a break. The planet is dying. The planet is barely alive.
But I won’t die here. I won’t die on this planet which is barely alive. I have an opportunity to leave. I am going to leave … and I won’t come back. I am the Man in the Moon. I built this spaceship. I built it with my own hands. I understood that there was a disaster coming.
I read the newspapers. I watched the television. I saw the news reports. I understood that disaster was coming. There were other people who didn’t understand. That’s why I built this spaceship. “Clann Lir” I called it. “Clann Lir”, yes. I know that I will be travelling for hundreds of years. From planet to planet. From star to star. From moon to moon. I am the Man in the Moon. I am an astronaut.
And I am leaving. I am leaving. I am leaving. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye to you. Goodbye to this country. Goodbye to this planet. Goodbye to you all. A bird darts out of every flock I am leaving. I am going to the stars and the other planets. I am going out into the solar system. I am going from planet to planet; I am going from star to star. Do you hear the engines: Do you hear them? They are powerful engines. They will take me from this planet to other planets. They will take me safely. Listen to the engines. Listen to them!
Ha … Ha! Wow!
Ha! I am a proper traveller now! The Man in the Moon! I am a traveller in the solar system. People like me are called astronauts. I travel in space. I am leaving this planet, this planet. I am escaping. Wow!
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. I am ready to leave …
I am escaping! Wow!
