Scotland's treasured places are also man-made and these form the basis of a touring exhibition which celebrates our built environment.

Treasured Places is organised by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) to help celebrate the centenary of the Commission.

Originally founded in 1908, the RCAHMS was tasked with surveying and recording all monuments in Scotland. At the time it was estimated that this would take three years! Luckily for us all, the Commission records not just ancient and historical monuments but industrial monuments such as the Forth bridges, housing and modern day structures like the Falkirk Wheel.

Their work is also open to the public with an archive public room in Edinburgh which is open each Monday to Friday from 0930 to 1630. Work is also ongoing in digitising many of the images in the archive and these are available through the RCAHMS website.

If you want to find out more about the work of the RCAHMS visit the website or view the Treasured Places: Creative Connections exhibition which is on tour. The exhibition began touring the country in Kirkcaldy before moving to The Black Isle and Benbecula. More information on the tour is available on the Treasured Places website.
