The Big Dance will form part of a major live BBC 1 broadcast on Saturday 22 July. | | Bruce Forsythe |
The programme is called Dancing in the Street, and will be hosted by Bruce Forsythe as a spin-off of the 'Strictly…' dance series. The climax of the show will be - hopefully - the announcement of a new World Record, set earlier in the day by all the people across the country who took part in their local Big Dance. How will it work?BBC Hereford and Worcester, in partnership with Arts Council England, is hosting your local Big Dance event. It'll take place in the foyer of Malvern Theatres, and will be open to everyone - all ages and all abilities! From 12 noon there will be a gentle warm up and a demonstration of the routine, then at 12.30 we'll start The Big Dance record attempt. | "It's absolutely free to take part in the Big Dance, but you do need to get your name on a register." | |
This will take place between 12.30 and 12.40 precisely (no latecomers!!), and will be lead by dance experts. Everyone who takes part will get a memento of their record breaking moment! Start practising nowDon't worry if you're new to dancing as you can learn the dance step-by-step. Just click on the links below for short videos of choreographer Luca Silvistrini and London Dance Captain Natasha Gilmore taking you through all five steps. After you have watched the videos, carry on practising until the day of The Big Dance event. Added extras! As well as the Big Dance itself, there'll be Salsa workshops with Salsa Del Sol and Ballroom, with Dance at 8, between 11 - 11.45am and 1 - 2pm. Herefordshire Youth Dance Group "Attitude" will also showcase two of their routines at 11.50am and 12.50pm. How do I get involved? | | Brendan Cole and Natasha Kaplinsky |
It's absolutely free to take part in the Big Dance, but you do need to get your name on a register - this is really important because the BBC has to prove to the people at the Guinness Book of World Records how many people have taken part! You can book your place by calling BBC Hereford and Worcester Action on 0845 300 5006. You will also be able to register on the day, but you MUST arrive by 12 noon to allow enough time to process your application. The practical stuff- Clothing: If you do decide to come along for BBC H&Ws Big Dance, remember to dress appropriately.
- Sun cream: With any luck it'll be a nice warm day and the event may extend outside. If it does, don't forget to protect yourself and your family from the sun's harmful rays!
- Refreshments: Although there is a café at Malvern Theatre, it'd be a good idea to bring some water with you.
- Parking: Although the usual parking spaces will be available near to the theatre, you may need to park away from the venue and walk to the event. Please allow enough time.
For the record...BBC Hereford and Worcester looks forward to seeing you there! |
