Hundreds of people got up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and walked around the Island... the long way! The Itex Rotary Walk is an annual 40 mile slog which raises money for nine different charities and in 2009 was held on Saturday 6 June. The first person to finish the challenge, which is not a race, was Naro Zimmerman who crossed the line in an impressive seven hours and forty minutes. Zimmerman did not start with the first runners at 0430 after he "got up a bit late" as his "alarm didn't go off" but left North Beach, the start and finish point, 40 minutes later. One of the more than 100 volunteers was rotary member Andy Salisbury who said, "We didn't expect anyone to arrive this early, he's done really well and he hardly looks tired!"
