MasterChef
Series 22: 2. Episode 2It's the second heat of the week, and six more amateurs are about to be put through their paces by Grace and Anna. It’s not often you get a tattoo artist, a flight operations controller and a retired US diplomat under one roof, but each one of the six cooks competing has the same goal – to impress the judges and secure their place in this week’s quarter-final.
First up, they need to earn an exclusive MasterChef apron. To work out which of them might have MasterChef potential, Anna and Grace need them to serve up their best plate in the signature dish round. A dish that demonstrates skill, a great palate and presentation skills to boot is a tall order under this kind of pressure, but the judges need to be sure that the amateurs will cope with what lies ahead. There’s no shortage of creativity, as the dishes include a Moroccan spiced risotto, a Persian love cake and a baked doughnut. Having tasted them all, Grace and Anna pick two cooks to whizz into the next round, proudly sporting their new aprons.
The other four must dust themselves off and get set for battle once more as they take on the classic recipe test. In a quest to see what core skills these cooks really have, Anna and Grace want them to prepare a hearty chicken breast served with creamy mash and a red wine sauce. The contestants each have the recipe and necessary ingredients but must rely on their knowledge and instinct. The only timing they can be certain of is that they have just 45 minutes to pull this dish out of the bag. It’s then down to the judges to pick the best and break the news to the two cooks who will be heading home.
The four cooks sporting aprons come together for the final cook-off of the heat. This time around, the pressure is ramped up, as they have three extra mouths to feed. With cookbook authors and restaurant owners in the room, if this doesn’t inspire the amateurs to cook at their best, nothing will.
All that’s left is for Anna and Grace to decide which two chefs have done enough to earn a place in this week’s quarter-final. One more will be sent home, but the race to become MasterChef Champion 2026 is well and truly underway.
