Slow cookers are great for cooking mince as it can become chewy if you try to cook it quickly. It's also a good budget option that's used in some classic family dishes, like spaghetti bolognese, meatballs and chilli con carne.

Try this family-style bolognese sauce in your slow cooker – it makes four very generous servings or easily stretches to six when served with lots of spaghetti. It keeps well in the fridge for a couple of days and freezes brilliantly for up to four months.
Each serving provides 230 kcal, 19g protein, 6.3g carbohydrate (of which 5.2g sugars), 13.8g fat (of which 5.9g saturates), 1.8g fibre and 0.74g salt.
