"An unkempt, enjoyable retelling of the life story of an Australian legend," Ned Kelly is the latest in a long line of productions. Sadly, this disc only hints at the extraordinary history behind the real man and the slew of movies he inspired.

A Near Century Of Ned Kelly On Screen
The only featurette on this DVD is Ned Kelly In Popular Culture, and an interesting programme it is too. Narrated by the famous Australian actor 'Bud' Tingwell, a lot of ground is covered. Footage is on offer from numerous Ned Kelly films, from 1906 to the present day. The different slants on his story are explained and some of the real history explored. It's unfortunate, though, that the effort put into this programme hasn't been allowed more than 13 minutes. To dig up all sorts of rare footage and get experts in, only to treat us to an MTV length piece, is a real shame.
Robbed
After one promising featurette, this disc dies in terms of extra features. But at least the movie is stunningly captured on DVD, with a handsome DTS 5.1 sound mix and steely blue/grey picture transfer.
