Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life DVD (2003)

We branded LCTR:TCOL "incoherent, dumb and stupefyingly bland". Don't let that put you off if you're merely after some Jolie kicks... Fans of hers will no doubt agree that the extra features on this DVD make for easy viewing. As for the movie, it comes with a 5.1 sound mix that will give your setup a Lara Croft style workout it won't forget!

Heavy With The Jan

Every last thought that Jan De Bont has ever had seems to be on his audio commentary. Given the speed at which he talks and his slight accent, you may have trouble keeping up. De Bont might be getting critically vilified for the films he's directing, but he knows his stuff technically, so fans of cinematography and the ever more seamless blending of live shooting with CGI effects should find this track interesting. The rest of you might have to retire after a short while with a mild headache.

Too Easy

A series of five featurettes make up the behind-the-scenes footage on the making of the movie, and they're interesting in that Angelina Jolie was clearly heavily involved in some demanding stunts. Maybe she should have invested some more time in the acting side (well, almost definitely!), but as she points out, she felt the first film was too easy for her, so demanded to be pushed for the sequel. People likely to buy this DVD are hardly going to complain at seeing a fit woman being put through her paces...

More Fighting

Once you've watched the film/fried your brain, you should check out the deleted/alternate scenes section. The extra scenes are no more than trims, but the alternate ending has a fight sequence twice as long as the one chosen for the movie.
