Sweet Home Alabama DVD (2002)

Reese Witherspoon is at that time in her career when it seems we’ll forgive her anything. Our reviewer found plenty of holes to poke in this feel-good comedy romance but her ample stock of "perky, kooky, charming mannerisms" soon rendered him spellbound, as it seems was the case with director Andy Tennant. He punctuates his audio commentary on a features-light DVD with sighs and compliments all about Reese.

The Audio Commentary

Tennant also manages to talk about things other than Reese. Chatty and keen to share his thoughts you’d struggle to sit through the whole thing in one sitting but he doesn’t bore. Even technical details are easily explained plus Tennant reveals the quirky real story that rather tenuously inspired the movie.

The Rest of the Extras

There’s not much else to shake out of the DVD. Tennant has included his original ending to the film but the changes made are slight. The deleted scenes are also somewhat inconsequential, which only leaves the music video to entertain you. Or you could just watch Reese Witherspoon in the movie, which we suspect is what Andy Tennant would rather do.
