Film review of "Johnny English"

"Johnny English" special feature

Johnny English would undoubtedly be highly impressed with this slick DVD as a showcase for his inept adventures. Most of the fun, though, is to be had for those of you with DVD ROM drives.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Every bumble and mishap is perfectly captured with this razor-sharp transfer.

Sound Universal are getting into the habit of supplying both Dolby and DTS sound mixes on a lot of their new titles, and praise is certainly due for that policy. Both tracks on this DVD wreak havoc with the speakers around you as Johnny destroys everything in sight.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Making Of Ben Miller kicks off this featurette with the assertion that this movie is "Rowan Atkinson doing what we all love seeing him do". Well if that's the case, you may enjoy seeing the extensive footage of Rowan at work here. There's little else to enjoy, although the CGI effects of the film are also covered.

Character Stats The movie's four main characters are profiled in this section, from their weapons to their mannerisms.

Observation Test Outrageous as it may seem, you're expected to work for this DVD. In order to get to the deleted scenes you have to look at five short scenes from the film and correctly answer questions. Do that and your reward is the unfunny moments cut from the movie!

DVD ROM Features You'll need a PC with a DVD ROM drive to access these interactive features. You'll be able to download wallpapers and a screensaver, and play with a silly identikit feature to make up horrible faces. The best stuff is a spy challenge game and a 'Spy Profiler' that will create a secret identity for you. It's unlikely you'll play these games more than once but they easily beat endless 'making of' featurettes that other DVDs insist on boring us with.
