The true story of the vicious beating and brutal murder of Matthew Shepard is explored in the challenging HBO movie, "The Laramie Project". Filmed in the actual town where the crime took place, it's based upon over two-hundred interviews with the shocked townspeople of Laramie. This interesting feature is an ideal candidate for a more in-depth DVD release than this one, even if it is the same as the US disc.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture Shot without glamour the picture is sharp and raw.
Sound The 5.1 sound mix effectively captures the claustrophobic nature of a small town gripped with this tragic crime.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Featurette Unusually for an HBO promotional featurette this isn't too cloyingly fluffy, but then neither should it be given the subject matter. It's still a painfully thin glimpse though into a project that actress Clea Duvall describes as, "probably the most important thing you can watch on TV". There is an argument for the film standing on its own merits but the experiences of the filmmakers could have been sensibly discussed on this DVD.
Additional Extra Features Also on the DVD is a short 'Peter Fonda Finale' and two interviews.
