After his acclaimed mix of thrills and humour in "The Usual Suspects", screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie delivers more of the same with "The Way of the Gun", now out on a busy DVD.
Moodily shot, the transfer to DVD is done with the usual care and attention that we've come to expect from Momentum.
The 5.1 sound mix keeps busy by splitting up the music score to good effect around the speakers.
The composer of the music, Joe Kraemer, pops up on audio commentaries without ever giving too much away. The first commentary has director Christopher McQuarrie enthusiastically relating anecdotes with Kraemer providing the "uh-huh" whenever necessary. Kraemer doesn't say that much more on the isolated score commentary, so he remains a little bit of an enigma even by the end of the DVD.
There are also some cast interviews for you to flick through. They're the usual mix of plot and character description where the actor looks at least as bored as the viewer. Benicio Del Toro struggles to offer insight into his character: "He's a guy with a gun. That makes him a tough guy", and on the movie: "It's kinda a western without horses". Easy cracks at actors without a clue aside, the film is still entertaining, and the DVD presents it well.
