Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman star in this exciting 80s remake of the 1948 film noir, "The Big Clock". Solid performances throughout contribute to the quality veneer of this film, which looks good on DVD.
Unlike previous VHS releases, the picture is in widescreen although not an anamorphic transfer, (a process which carries extra coding to create a more detailed picture on a widescreen TV). Despite this, the image remains relatively free of grain throughout and colours are good.
The 2.0 sound mix is a busy affair. First there's Maurice Jarre's occasionally jarring (no pun intended) 80s synth score which is belted out with appropriate gusto. And on top of that, the disc does a good job of adding effects when needed.
The only extra on the disc is the original trailer. But if you're desperate to learn more about the making of the film (you will have to be to get this!) you can try tracking down the movie stunts video "Action 3" on the long defunct Braveworld label. There you'll get interview footage with Costner and watch him perform his own stunt where he leaps several feet over a banister (wow!). After that, it might be a good time to question what you're doing with your life.
