About this concert
Eric Whitacre needs no introduction. He’s an international phenomenon; a Grammy award-winning composer whose luminous, intensely beautiful music has captivated audiences across the globe, and a conductor whose inspirational leadership has breathed new life into choral singing in the 21st century. Naturally, we’re thrilled to welcome him to Edinburgh for this afternoon of singing and celebration with our own world-class chamber choir — the BBC Singers — and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. And equally naturally he’ll be conducting his own music (including the now-classic Lux Aurumque), alongside music by two composers he particularly admires, Caroline Shaw and Lucy Walker. Finally, everything comes together in Mozart’s haunting final masterpiece — the Requiem that inspired Whitacre’s own first composition, and to which he brings a lifetime’s love and experience.
