First timer, and a fantastic challenge to test your endurance. I heard the announcement for the mexican wave at the beginning so paused in shock when everyone suddenly darted after the countdown.Jumped straight into the cold water and tried swimming. Woah, quite a shock to the system and not such a good idea as I ended up carrying around a cold, wet and heavy t-shirt from then on.Then came the mud wall of hell, that first bank out of the water. Soft, steep and extremely hard work. If you stop moving you sink back down so there is nothing for it but to dig in deep and go for a sprint. And then it is pure hard graft from then on as you are out of breath, exhausted and have to keep pushing yourself to prevent that sinking sensation while listening to the squelching noises of every stride.

The cold showers felt even worse than the Blackwater!Thats two years "under my belt",now if only I can find someone foolish enough to enter it next year....

I was Spiderman in your photo no 8. This was my first time. I saw it for the first time last year and thought i must give it a go. I know at times I felt like dropping out.We had a great time. I was warned that it would be tough but did not realise how tough. My legs just got tired and cold so quickly. Considering that i did no training for it, I came in probably the first third. Our church, CGC Maldon, cancelled its service sun morning so that we could all be there and had it in the afternoon instead. One of our pastors did it as well. There were 8 of us in two teams of 4 all as super heros. Francesca was in photo 9 as super girl. She did really well. I think she won the best female costume award.

I entered along with 3 work colleagues for the first time this year. I'd been to watch before, but nothing really prepares you for the horror of the 'black gooey stuff' just beneath the surface of the mud and the putrid smell of rotten eggs on the far side of the course. The pre-start mud fight seemed to calm the nerves and the huge dollop of goo that hit me square on the side of the face knocked all doubts for six.The start was a bit hap-hazzard, but we found out later that the countdown was supposed to start a Mexican Wave in the crowd! Anyway, we were off and I took an early dunking in the water. People who had come to watch us lost me then as I no longer had a white t-shirt on, it was now a greyish brown. The course itself was fairly short but still tough. Some bits you could walk, some you could run, some you could only crawl through. Stepping into a seemingly semi solid bit of mud only to see your leg disappear to thigh level was interesting, but great fun. There was a great atmosphere coming from the crowd too, and moving our 'swamp thing' bodies amongst them afterwards was met with many a 'congratulations' and an occasional, foolish, handshake! It was quite hard whilst doing it and it took ages to get the stench off my skin, but it was well worth it and I'll be back again next year!

finish no.142
That was the hardest thing i have ever ever done! Its like crawling through honey, but much smellier and very cold! Very proud of myself now I've done it.
