The Masons

A Mason of Lodge 25 St Andrews, shares his thoughts on life in the Lodge.

'There have been Masons in St Andrews for more than four hundred years, and many local buildings carry our Masonic insignia. The Masonic Lodge is bound up with the heritage of this historic town.

Towards the end of the nineteenth century, the Members of our Lodge, who had been meeting in the Town House in Market Street, moved into the new Town Hall. Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, we were able to furnish the Masonic Temple, hidden away at the top of the building, in a fashion which few could rival, and which is still impressive.

Belonging to the Lodge here you feel, in some small way, part of the heritage and history of the Town, as well as part of a movement that is represented all over the world, with a tradition of inclusiveness and benevolence.

At meetings of the Lodge, we find a rare friendliness and a fraternal sense of common purpose. Many of the members follow their fathers and grandfathers into the craft, but many are attracted as well by the rich symbolism, and by the magnificent language of the Degrees'.
