Steve Nallon

Steve Nallon's Adventures in Wonderland

What is your show all about?

I'm an impressionist performing a one-man show version of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland where all the characters of the story are played by the impressions I do. In the show and the original story Alice meets all these different characters/impressions who keep telling her, or asking her, 'who she is?' As she goes on her journey, encounter to encounter, she, like me, alters personality in that she keeps changing her size and shape - so if the show is about anything it's about changing identity, which seems appropriate enough for someone whose stage life is being other people!

Where and when can we see it?

Komedia, Roman Eagle Lodge - Venue 21 at 6.15pm. It lasts an hour.

Do you love Edinburgh or is it a chore?

Don't be silly! Who can not love Edinburgh. It's a great city and performing isn't a chore it's simply what I do.

What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?

One thing I won't be doing is talking too much. Alistair McGowan warned me to avoid raising my voice and speaking at all in smoky atmospheres. He was right. When I didn't follow his advice I was a bit hoarse the next day - and so were the voices I did. I hope though to see some other shows while I'm in Edinburgh.

What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?

I'm a big fan of Kneehigh Theatre Company. Their Red Shoes in 2001 was very special.

What's the worst thing you've seen?

An ill conceived lesbian version of John-Paul Sartre's No Exit. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?

Being told my show was marvellous by Hattie Hayridge who had mistakenly thought I was David Benson.

If you could persuade one VIP to come to your show who would it be? Why?

Ann Widdecombe. She plays the ugly Duchess in the show. I'd like to see how she reacts.

If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?

An engaging audience. Oh... and world peace.

What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?

Ignore reviews go on recommendations and word of mouth. Also stick a pin in the diary and go see something without any idea what it is. You never know...
