Joanna Neary
Joanna Neary is 'Not Feeling Herself'
What is your show all about?
My show is a one person theatrical/comedy sketch show. It's an odd little world of unexpected characters (like a dolphin, a cat, a woman from the 1940's) who all have something to say. The common thread is that they're all written by me based on people I've met/things I want to say but I'm too shy.
Where and when can we see it?
The Smirnoff Underbelly for the whole of the festival(except for two Monday's off) at 7.30pm.
Do you love Edinburgh or is it a chore?
I'm looking forward to it, it's like a massive trade fair with lots of friends around and Edinburgh is lovely - like a land of the giants, meaning the huge buildings and frightening monuments.
What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?
The usual. Britney Spears dance routines, complaining, feeling homesick, eating lard.
What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?
Gary Le Strange's first night. I laughed so much I had to punch myself in the face.
What's the worst thing you've seen?
My bank balance.
What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?
Being forbidden from seeing another (famous) comic's show as he was paranoid we'd steal his material.
If you could persuade one VIP to come to your show who would it be? Why?
I really wouldn't want to have to persuade anyone to come as I don't like hounding people. If it was a fantasy choice and VIPs were queuing up to get in then Victoria Wood or Johnny Vegas.
If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?
Obviously and boringly, to win the Perrier Newcomer Award.
What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?
Go and see shows without relying too much on reviews. It's just one person's opinion and you might not have the same one.
