Des Clarke
What is your show all about?
The show is really about what's going on inside my mind at the time - nothing more specific than that. It's called 'Des Clarke' (innovative, eh?). The reason I haven't gone for a fancy name is: a. I thought by giving the show a title it restricts me to one concept or topic and I don't think it's possible for me to stay on any one train of thought for any more than a minute let alone an hour and b. I couldn't be arsed to think of one clever enough.
Where and when can we see it?
Pod Deco, 6.25pm, 6-29 August. (I can say this in my sleep now!)
Do you love Edinburgh or is it a chore?
(Asking a Glaswegian if they love Edinburgh is a double edged sword!) I've still got that naievity in that although I've been to the Fringe before, this is my first solo run so I've got a genuine excitement about it all. Wait till halfway through week 3 though and you might get a very different answer!
What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?
I plan to catch as many other shows as I can during the Fringe. My own show finishes at a reasonable time so I can get to see most of the good stuff in the evening. I'm also going to spend a lot of my time back home in Glasgow so I can chill out occasionally away from the Festival madness.
What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?
3 years ago, the last ever night of Late'n'Live in the old building in Cowgate. A stage rammed full of comedians singing 'Oh Edinburgh' led by Sean Cullen. Also, Johnny Vegas refusing to leave the stage and having to be dragged off half-naked by Daniel Kitson, Adam Hills and Ross Noble. Priceless.
What's the worst thing you've seen?
A really long play about potatoes.
What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?
Someone giving me a flyer to come to my own show. They actually offered me a 2 for 1 but warned: "I don't know if it's any good, it might be rubbish."
If you could persuade one VIP to come to your show who would it be? Why?
Gary Coleman from 'Different Strokes'. I don't know why, it would just be funny to see his face in the audience.
If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?
A later train back to Glasgow.
What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?
Be prepared to walk up some mega steep hills, maps don't always warn you about this! A simple journey between 2 shows can turn into an expedition. Bring crampons.
