New show MaeBee coming to CBeebies

Join Mae, a small but mighty gnome, and her foster brother Bee as they embark on magic-filled, fantasy-comedy adventures to fill a page of Mae’s Book of Big! With Bee’s help, Mae tackles challenges head-on, proving that size doesn’t matter when you’ve got heart, curiosity, and a lot of Pinecone Toast.

What is MaeBee about?

The Green Garden is a land filled with oddly magical folk, living together in harmony... sort of. At the centre of it all is Mae, a young gnome who dreams of being BIG! The truth is Mae is very small, even for a gnome, but she is also mighty! Normally gnomes are born in twins or triplets but, as an only child, Mae seems to be at least three gnomes in one - triple the strength and triple the moxie!

Meet small but mighty Mae

Being super strong, Mae can do some pretty amazing things, like leaping over daisies in a single bound! Mae is also clever and determined, earnest and tenacious, always willing to take a risk to learn something new for her Book of Big. Mae is a whimsical gnome who values people just as they are. She loves strawberries, using Bee like a fuzzy pillow, and making up songs about anything.

Mae the gnome child lifts her hands up in excitement, surrounded by things she loves, including the Book of Big, a strawberry and some toast.

Meet Bee, a loveable fuzzy oddball

Bee is Mae's foster twin... not identical, of course! It is not certain whether Bee knows that he's a bee. Mae and Bee are best friends and typical siblings, capable of a good bicker, especially since Bee hasn't yet grasped the concept of personal space. Bee often says the strangest of things, which Mae is certain carry the deepest of wisdom, but more often than not he's just blowing a well-timed raspberry.

Meet Mae's family

Three generations of gnome living under one roof in total harmony... no problems whatsoever! Mae lives with Bee, Ma-Mae, Grand-Mae and Granda-Bill.

Ma-Mae, Mae's mum, is a painter, always adding murals to the house. According to Mae, her mum isn't afraid of anything, a voice of wisdom in a world of weirdness, and her role model!

Da-Nono is Mae's dad, a wandering gnome-ad, happiest when on the move from place to place. He runs a travelling shop and, even though he and Ma-Mae aren't together anymore, he often visits the Green Garden to sell his wares and spend time with Mae.

Grand-Mae and Granda-Bill are a pair of ancient gnomes filled with arcane wisdom. Grand-Mae is somewhat of a free spirit, one of life's great experimenters and will try anything once. Granda-Bill is a more disciplined gnome who believes if you are going to do something you do it right!

Great Grand-Mae is the oldest of the family, and she has been lost in her own hat for a few centuries...

How can you get lost in a hat?

Gnome hats are magic and they can behave in odd ways and have unique quirks. For example, all gnome hats have infinite storage. Some hats can change size, some can fly, some light up or change colours, while others are connected to doors. You could crawl inside a hat and come out of your neighbour's kitchen cabinet!

Some hats even react to emotions. So, if a gnome hat suddenly grows to engulf its owner, you know they're probably just feeling a bit shy!

Over the centuries, more than a few gnomes have lost themselves in their own hat. Great Grand-Mae has been lost in her hat for two hundred years and counting!

What is the Book of Big?

The Book of Big is a magical tome that appearswhen a gnome is born. Young gnomes fill their book with everything they learn and, when the book is full, they're considered grown-ups. That said, an extra blank page can always just appear in the back, since every magical book knows that it's never too late to learn something new.
