Make your own spooky lanterns with Gran Gran
It's time for a Gran Gran Plan! If you want an alternative to carving pumpkins this Halloween, try making your own spooky vegetable lanterns from peppers, butternut squash and more!
- Vegetables e.g. butternut squash, peppers
- Pens
- Knife (grown-up use only)
- Spoon
- Battery powered tea-light
How to make Gran Gran's spooky lanterns
Follow the step-by-step instructions to make your own vegetable lanterns, just like Gran Gran. Don't forget to ask a grown-up for help!
Gather vegetables you want to use as spooky lanterns. Peppers and butternut squash work great.
Use pens to draw funny or spooky faces onto the vegetables.
Ask your grown-up to cut off the top of the vegetables and keep the top to one side for later. Then scoop out all the insides!
Ask your grown-up to cut along the pen lines, then remove the excess to leave holes in the vegetable.
Get a battery powered tea-light and put it inside the vegetable.
Put the vegetable top back on and enjoy your spooky vegetable lanterns!
