Who is St Patrick?
He is the patron saint of Ireland, who supposedly lived in Britain in Ancient Roman times. He is celebrated for bringing Christianity to the country.
He was enslaved, but once freed, trained as a priest and travelled to Ireland to spread the word of Christianity to thousands of people.
How is St Patrick's Day celebrated?
It began as a celebration of his work, and families would gather to feast. It has since become an international festival that points to and celebrates everything about Ireland.
People wear traditional dress, (especially green!), go to parades, dance, eat together and enjoy amazing firework shows and other street celebrations.
