Saturday Mash-Up Competition Terms and Privacy Notice

These are the Saturday Mash-Up (August-December 2026) rules for the goody bag competition.

1. The competition is open to all residents of the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man aged 6 to 15, except the close relatives of BBC employees, BBC Group Company employees or anyone connected with the competition or the particular prize being offered. Permission to enter will be required from a parent or guardian. Proof of permission, identity and eligibility may be required. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or winner who breaches these Terms and Conditions.

Competitions will run weekly during the series of Saturday Mash-Up (unless editorial requirements lead to a change in schedule). Each competition will open at 15:00 the day before and close at 10:45 during the programme. Entries outside of the period will not count. Entries should be submitted on the BBC website. No other method of entry will be accepted. Only one entry is allowed per entrant into each competition, any additional entries will be disregarded.

Your child/ward will be asked a question with three possible answers. The correct entries will be pooled. The winner will be selected at random from the pool of correct entries.

The parent or guardian of entrants must provide their name, telephone number, the first name of the child, the child's age and their hometown. Entrants must be available via the contact information they have provided. If, after reasonable attempts, a winner cannot be contacted, or the call is diverted to any form of voicemail, answerphone, or automated answer service (including but not limited to call screening features that intercept or filter calls), the entrant will be deemed not to have answered and that entrant’s participation in the competition ends and another winner will be selected at random from the pool of correct entries.

Winners may be required to be available to talk on-air over the phone when being awarded the prize. Given this, after the winner is selected at random, their parent or guardian will be contacted on the number provided to give their consent.

The prize for each round of the competition will consist of signed Saturday Mash-Up! merchandise. This may include, but is not limited to, presenter photographs, bag, t-shirt, pen as well as a variety of items donated by celebrity guests appearing on Saturday Mash-Up.

The prize is stated as above. There is no cash alternative and the prize cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances. The winner will be notified within 60 mins of the competition closing.

The BBC's decision as to entrants taking part and winners is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.

For the avoidance of doubt, the BBC shall not be responsible for any other fee, expense or cost. If the prize requires additional action, the winner must follow instructions given. The BBC is not responsible for the winner failing to follow instructions.

The winner cannot copy or distribute the prize or copies of it. Any programme names, branding or logos on or associated with the prize cannot be used or reproduced by the winner in any way. The winner shall not do anything with the prize that might bring the BBC into disrepute.

If the prize includes tickets or entry to an event, the BBC will not be responsible for any failure of the winner and/or guests (if applicable) to gain entry or re-entry to the event due to their behaviour or failing to meet the admission requirements. The BBC will not be responsible for suspension or cancellation of events that may form part of the prize, including through governmental restrictions. If the prize includes access to a sporting event, the winners, and guests (if applicable) must not be subject to any order banning them from attending such events.

The winner(s) acknowledge that event tickets have additional Terms and Conditions. Winners (and their guests, where applicable) agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of the ticketed event. The BBC is not responsible for third party terms or third-party websites related to the prize(s).

13. If the winners and/or their guest (if applicable) have any health or accessibility requirements, these need to be disclosed to the BBC prior to prize fulfilment. In order to fully experience the prize that includes experiences or ticketed events, there may be some security and Health & Safety requirements imposed by BBC, the promoter or the venue. These will need to be followed prior to those elements being experienced. The winner and their guest(s) (if applicable) must also comply with the health, safety and security policies at any venue associated with the prize.

14. Where required, the BBC will pass on details of the winner’s parent or guardian to the appropriate prize provider/venue to arrange prize fulfilment. If the prize requires additional action (such as collection of tickets at the box office) the winner and/or parent or guardian must follow instructions given (which may include proof of identity).

15. The first name of winners and their hometown will be made public.

16. The BBC reserves the right to: (i) amend these Terms and Conditions including, but not limited to, opening and closing times; (ii) disqualify any entrant who breaches the Terms and Conditions, including but not limited to being ineligible to enter, has acted fraudulently in any way, or has brought the BBC into disrepute and; (iii) cancel the competition, at any stage, if in its opinion it is deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside its control.

17. The BBC, their sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, system, network or service provider or otherwise which may result in any entry not being properly logged or not recorded.

18. Parents or guardians will be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions and to agree to be bound by them when registering.

19. To the extent permitted by law, the BBC will not be liable for any loss or damage (whether such damage or losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or otherwise) including financial, reputational loss or disappointment.

Saturday Mash-Up! Competition Privacy Notice

What is a privacy notice?

A Privacy Notice tells you what personal data the BBC collects about you, how we use it and your legal rights. Personal data means any information that can be used to identify you, such as your name, address, or picture. This privacy notice is designed to be read by children and young people, but you might want to read it with your parent/guardian.

Why are we doing this and how can you take part?

The BBC is giving the chance for fans of Saturday Mash-Up! to win a prize every week during the series!

At 15:00 every Friday the competition will open. To enter, answer the competition question found on the Saturday Mash-Up! site. You will also need to provide the personal data listed in the section below so we can contact you and your parent/guardian.

From those who answer that week’s question correctly, someone will be randomly selected as the winner. If you are selected, your parent or guardian will need to be ready to answer when we call during that week’s episode of Saturday Mash-Up! so we can speak to you. If we cannot get through, we will call the next person chosen at random.

If you appear on an episode of Saturday Mash-Up! this episode will be available online and/or on demand, and your appearance may be used again in a future broadcast. We might also use your appearance on the BBC’s social media channels.

What personal data do we collect?

You must be between 6 and 15 years old to enter.

We will collect and process the following personal data about you:

• First name

• Age

• Location

Your parent/guardian’s personal data

We will also collect some of your parent/guardian’s personal data so we can contact them if we need to:

• Name

• Phone number

• Email

If you win the competition, we will also need to collect your parent/guardian’s postal address so that we can send you your prize.

Who looks after your personal data?

The BBC is the data controllers of your personal data. A data controller is responsible for the personal data that is collected about you. We have appointed a Data Protection Officer who makes sure we do everything the law says we should. The rules we have to follow when we collect your personal data

The BBC follows the data protection rules when we collect and use your personal data. The rule that we are using to collect your personal data for the Saturday Mash-Up! competition is called “public task.” We use this rule because the BBC was created to inform, educate, and entertain, and campaigns like the one you are entering help us do that.

Will your personal data be shared?

When we have to share your information with other people, we will only share it so we can do our job or when the law says that we must. When your personal data is shared with someone else, they must keep it safe and only use it in a way that the BBC tells them they can use it.

How long will we keep your personal data?

If you appear on an episode of Saturday Mash-Up! this episode will be kept forever by the BBC in our archive.

The BBC will keep the personal data of winners for two (2) years so we can prove the competition was run fairly.

If you enter the competition but do not win, we will delete your personal data seven (7) days after that week’s competition closes.

Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).

What are your rights?

You and your parents/guardians (if you are under 13) have the right under data protection law to:

• Ask to see and receive a copy the personal data we hold.

• Ask us to change personal data you think is wrong.

• Ask us to delete personal data when it is not needed anymore.

• Ask us to only use your personal data in certain ways

• Tell us you do not want your personal data to be processed.

• Ask us to send your personal data to you or any other organisation, in certain situations.
