Renowned DJ Pat Cavaliere showed a set of teenagers how to DJ like a dream. He also talked to us about BBC Blast and himself... Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer Pat Cavaliere edges into the studio on a long Wednesday afternoon in his trendy hoody and jeans combo, looking slightly nervy. For someone who spends his evenings as a major part of the exhilarating, high-energy world of DJing, Pat actually seems like a fairly shy, down-to-earth guy. However, when he starts talking about his career as a MC/ DJ, it is obvious that he has a great passion both for music and for entertaining. As a teenager, Pat and his friends could often be found at Grantchester Meadows holding free parties for hundreds of people. He then managed to work his way into the club scene by hosting club nights and getting local established DJs to play, eventually acquiring his own residencies. Although Pat has made a career out of DJing for the past 10 years, he made it clear that he was never in it for the celebrity status, and has recently discovered how fulfilling community work can be. He now works for ‘Chypps’: ‘Children and Young People’s Participation Service’ which is an organisation run by Cambridge City Council. ‘Chypps’ aim is to get young people to get involved in community projects and to make full use of their local recreation grounds. From this, he got involved with BBC Blast in Cambridge, and ran an MC workshop. It was an opportunity for ‘any young aspiring Djs or Mcs to come along and hopefully improve their skills.’ He says anyone who has a passion for music and mixing should learn the basics of these spine-tingling skills, and not to worry about making a fool of themselves; listen to interview to find out about Pat's most embarrassing DJing moments. Even the professionals mess up sometimes! The workshop took place from 1.15-3.45pm on Friday 6th July on Parker’s Piece, Cambridge. last updated: 13/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cambridgeshire > Blast > Mixing it up with BBC Blast |
