Fallon started playing football at a young age with his older brother and his mates. He enjoyed going out to the local “rec” or just kicking the ball around in the street. From there he eventually moved on to a successful playing career with Cambridge United before going to Milton Road for a nine-year spell with Cambridge City. For Steve, you “can’t beat playing” and he says he was “fortunate enough to have some good times and be in a good league". Indeed, he won both the fourth and third leagues with the U’s and played against West Ham and Chelsea. When Steve’s playing career ended he was approached by Histon and jumped at the chance to get involved, and “ever since that day it’s been fantastic". For him, coaching is most definitely the next best thing and he's happy to have enjoyed "the best of both worlds for 30 odd years” and says he certainly can’t complain. Steve also enjoys his job running youth coaching in the community but can find it hard to adjust, sometimes leading to him treating the first team side as children! He believes the community link to be “vitally important” to the club’s success. According to Fallon, by involving kids, and enjoying a good FA Cup run, the club has been able to gain the support of the whole village. Having just reached 50, Steve’s future lies with Histon and he believes the club can match his ambitions. With good plans for the future and directors geared to success, Fallon says he hopes they can “achieve success together”. It seems Steve’s home life also revolves around football. With his family also enjoying the ‘beautiful game’ and the social occasions that go along with it, he only escapes to walk their new dog and play golf with his son. |
