21,000 works to be added this month!

In June, another 21,000 oil paintings will be added to Your Paintings. The National Portrait Gallery, National Museum Wales, Ashmolean, Hunterian, Royal Academy and Royal College of Art collections are among those joining the site.

Also new are all public collections with oils in Cumbria, Lancashire, the Isle of Man and Plymouth, together with another 46 National Trust properties.

This will take the total number of UK collections on the site to over 1,500 and the total number of paintings to 145,000.

Progress on Your Paintings is moving steadily towards our 200,000 target, with another 6,000 pictures just added.

These include 2,000 paintings from the London Borough of Camden and 3,000 from Merseyside.

Camden has ten varied and diverse collections including the Wellcome Library’s Historical Archive of Health and Wellbeing, and Central Saint Martins Art School. The collections include fantastic works by Canaletto, Hogarth, William Orpen, Terry Frost and Raqib Shaw amongst others.

An Election: 1. The Entertainment (William Hogarth, Collection: Sir John Soane’s Museum)

The 3,000 paintings from National Museums Liverpool are located across seven Merseyside museum sites, including the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the Walker Art Gallery and The Museum of Liverpool.

The Merseyside collections include works by Rembrandt and Rubens, along with later pieces by artists including Cézanne, Degas, Lucian Freud and Monet.

These paintings are just some of the highlights from the 60 collections we’ve added.

Don’t forget you can help the BBC and the Public Catalogue Foundation identify and catalogue what’s in each painting. Tagging is easy and fun and you don’t need to be an art expert to do it. Your Paintings has launched on Twitter with the aptly named @Your_Paintings.

The Public Catalogue Foundation - the BBC’s partner for Your Paintings - will be doing the tweeting.

By following @Your_Paintings you can keep up-to-date with the latest developments, including news of the most recent additions of paintings, collections, features and functions to the site.

The Public Catalogue Foundation will also be tweeting lots of links to beautiful, surprising and unique paintings from the UK’s national collection. Plus, they’ll be keeping you posted with art news and national exhibitions going on around the UK and abroad.

This is also a great opportunity for us to find out your thoughts about the site, so do follow @Your_Paintings and tell us what you think!

Over half of the nation's collection now online

We're halfway there! Your Paintings now has almost 104,000 paintings on the site – so only about another 100,000 to go before you can see every oil painting in public ownership in the UK.

We've added paintings in public ownership from across the country, including Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, many of which are online for the first time.

These paintings are some of the highlights from the 35 collections we’ve added:
