Animal impersonations - phone them in!

Our wildlife wonders Mike Dilger and Miranda Krestovnikoff are back this week with a series of films about talking to the animals.

So, from Monday, 9th November to Friday 13th November 2009, we're inviting One Show viewers to call our telephone line and leave their animal impersonations on voicemail.

Do you sound like a squirrel? Can you impersonate an iguana?

Leave your impression of an animal on our "creature call" phoneline.

The number is 03700 100 150.

We'll be using the best of the animal impressions in our new online game from next week.

Changes to the blog sign-in

If you often leave comments on The One Show blogs you may notice that there's a new, blue, sign in button at the end of each blog.

There's a new button because the BBC has a new blog sign-in system called BBC iD.

So, from now on, if you add a comment to The One Show blogs you'll be prompted to upgrade your account(s). You only have to do it once and it should be a quick and easy process.

One note of caution: If you've got multiple BBC accounts, you'll only be able to upgrade one of them to BBC iD using your preferred username and email address.

Wildlife in your garden? Send in a photo!

Every night this week, Mike Dilger and Miranda Krestovnikoff are looking out for wildlife in five gardens in Andover, Hampshire.

The best of the photos of your animal vistors may get shown on the programme.

Now the clocks have gone back, Mike suggests the animals we should listen out for include foxes, tawny owls and robins.

Proof that Roman Britain was multicultural?

At Yorkshire Museum, Angellica Bell examined a foruth century skull that may cause history books to be rewritten. Angellica says that the discovery of this skull proves just how multicultural Britain was during the Romans.

The width between the skull's eye sockets and the shape of her nose indicate black ancestry, say experts. However, the shape of the nasal spine and lower face indicate white ancestry, suggesting that she is of mixed race.

Although mixed race people were not necessarily uncommon in Roman York, her skeleton shows she had a comfortable life, and was unlikely to have been a slave.

Using state of the art facial reconstruction, Angellica revealed for the first time what this woman who was mixed race, may have looked like.

It seems that this skull may indicate that Roman Britain was a multicultural society.

The skull will be on display at Yorkshire Museum from August 2010.

On Tuesday 20th October the guest on The One Show was lead singer from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Holly Johnson.

As well as being famous for their hit singles, Holly's band spawned a fashion for T-shirts bearing slogans, with just about anyone who was anyone wearing a 'Frankie Says Relax' T-shirt during the eighties.

So... we wanted to know what slogan we should all be wearing on our T-shirts today. Adrian's had a go, take a look at his photo on the right.

Can you believe your eyes?

All this week our science man Marty Jopson is trying to make sense of our senses.

On Tuesday's show Marty brought some optical illusions into the studio to show how our eyes can deceive us.

In case you missed it here's our version of the 'Colour Illusion'

Concentrate on the black dot in the centre of the video and after 15 seconds the image appears to change into colour!

Marty Jopson explained how this worked in the show on Tuesday 13th October.

It's to do with the cells in the brain that respond to particular colours. They become tired when you stare at a colour for a long time. Take the colour away and your brain effectively subtracts that colour from what you see. So when you look at the negative image and then take the colour away you see a positive colour image.

But don't worry, the effect is temporary.

Arlene Phillips goes behind the scenes of So You Think You Can Dance

The One Show's dance expert, Arlene Phillips, took us exclusively backstage of the BBC's latest dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance. Watch her video above.

The dance competition, which is currently holding auditions up and down the UK, is looking for the next big thing in the world of dance. Arlene Phillips has joined the panel of judges who'll decide who goes through to the top 100.

Cat Deeley is coming to BBC One to host So You Think You Can Dance this January and the show is looking for dancers with a passion to perform.

Zippy and George tell all! Rainbow - the inside story!

Zippy and George, from the legendary children's show Rainbow, came in to chat to Adrian and Christine on Friday 9th October.

There were many important questions which needed to be answered by the two-some, including what they'd been up to since the show's demise, and what upcoming projects they're working on.

But the question on everyone's lips was, 'What's happened to Bungle?'
