Today's Memory Tape is from a listener called Steve. What else is there to know? Well, a number of years ago, when Steve was a goth, he and his lady friend	karen made a tape together. Today, that tape is presented to the world, and here's Steve to tell us everything we need to know about it - remember, you can send us your memories and tapes in our 24 hour email service, email; lauren.6music@bbc.co.uk now:

"I have
to say that Bugsy Malone number you played this morning whisked me way back to
a time when I was a stage manager down in Worthing. The first stage I ever
completely designed was for an amateur production of that show. Multi levelled,
with places to stash the speakeasy furniture & even a place for the pedal
sedans. Anyhoo, hearing the song really stirred memories, so I'll get to the
point.

Many
years back, when I was an aspiring Goth, I was going out with a girl called
Karen (circa 1989-94ish). We had similar
and varied taste in music and we introduced each other to artists which otherwise
may have passed us by (much like 6 Music does for me today). The compilation we
made was called Guns 'n' Daisies, named after my love of Clint Eastwood Westerns
& Karen’s fondness for daisies (and drawing them on just about anything to
hand). We listed a dozen of our (then) favourite tracks and made a compilation
featuring a selection of both our choices. Karen had a copy, and so did I, for
our Walkmans."

The
full track list is as follows, with a (G) for my choice, a (D) for Daisy’s.

A

Icicle Works- Out Of Season (D)

The Mission- Serpents Kiss (G)

Terry Hall - The Windmills Of Your Mind (D)

The Last Cry - Sugar Tears (D)

Blondie - Shayla (D)

The Cult - Edie Ciao Baby (D/G)

The Cure- Charlotte Sometimes (D/G)

The Psychedelic Furs- Sister Europe (D/G)

Danielle Dax- Cat House (G)

Kate Bush- Wuthering Heights (D)

B

The Smiths- What Difference Does It Make? (G)

Buzzcocks- Ever Fallen In Love.. (G)

Icicle Works- Starry Blue Eyed Wonder (D)

Love & Rockets- Khundalini Express (G)

Stray Cats- Rock This Town (G)

The Godfathers- I Want Everything (G)

Martha & The Muffins- Echo Beach (G)

Icicle Works- Understanding Jane (G)

The Cure- A Forest (D/G)

Blondie- Cautious Lip (D)

Lou Reed- Perfect Day (D)

Leonard Cohen- The Sisters Of Mercy (D)

"I still
listen to all of these artists and tracks as they now feature on my iPod.

I lost
touch with Karen years ago now and currently reside in Hungary and your show is
a regular part of my weekday mornings. There’s always something to inspire me
for a good afternoon's play listing while I admin my The Cure Fan Forum (thecurecommunity).
I know you probably get bazillions of these emails, but nothing ventured,
nothing gained eh? Thanks for taking the time to read & I'd be thrilled if
you felt you could pick a couple of the tracks for your Memory Tapes slot
sometime."

Cheers

Steve

This week's Memory Tapes comes from Matt, who writes....

Last weekend I got my box of Vinyl out from the cupboard under the stairs (sad I know) to show my 13 year-old son some Undertones LPs - as he is learning Teenage Kicks on guitar. In-between some albums I found this track listing.

I recall my friend Mark sent the tape through the post to me many years ago when I was doing that post-degree thing of moving house every 6 months, making new friends, and sometimes not having any! So this was gratefully received. It's made even better by having a one-line comment from him against each track. I recall there were some tracks I didn't like and some I loved, but mostly a load of good music I'd not heard before - which is the whole point of a mix-tape, methinks?

Finding the list was like opening a secret door under the stair that led to one of many "dingy front rooms-converted to a bedroom" I lived in at various times in the late 1980's / early '90's. The C-90 is long gone, but I recall a lot of the tracks even though I haven't heard them for 20+ years. I can almost smell the damp.

SIDE 1
Birthday Party - Sonny's Burning
Prince Far I - Free from Sin
Maceo Parker - Mag Poo
X-Clan - Funkin Lesson
The Fall - Look Know
TAD - Wood Goblins
Ginger Thompson - Boy Watcher
Bim Sherman - Mighty Ruler
Midi Rain - Eyes
The Triffids - Hanging Shed
Galliano - Welcome to the Story
Happy Flowers - We Rock
The Upsetters - Thanks we get

SIDE 2
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Mark Stewart - Collision
Misty in Roots - Own them Control them
A Witness - Mr Disposable Razors
Band of Holy Joy - Mad Dot
Lee Perry - 7 Devils Dead
Flipper - Ever
A R Cane - Crack Up
Tapper Zukie - New Star
James - Hup Springs
Hole - Teenage Whore
Paleface - Burn & Rob

Would you like to send Lauren your Memory Tape?
This week's Memory Tapes comes from Anna, who writes....

"When we were 15/16 years old (1992-1995) my friend Emma and me would be avid frequenters of our local indie disco's Langtrys in Beckenham and The Venue in New Cross.

"Having met by me accosting her one night and telling her in no certain terms that we WERE going to be friends whether she liked it or not, we were soon the best of buds. I’m not quite sure how it evolved but we ended up creating a series of dances which we later dubbed ‘action women’ dances to a variety of songs that we used to hear. They were called action women dances as we used to just enact the words of the song whilst dancing.

"This list of songs grew exponentially and one night I got home from school to find a tape and a letter in the post (we used to write each other letters all the time even though we both had telephones...), excitedly I rang her and over the phone I listened to the tape in its entirety and wrote down the tracklisting - (a 90 minute phone call did not impress my parents very much).

"Over the next two years we ended up making 7 volumes of Now That’s What I Call Action Women, we would each take it in turns, give each other the tape but with no writing on, and listen to it together, the receiver of said tape being the one who got to write out the actual tracks.

"It grew from just action women songs to songs that reminded us of certain times and events, for example we were at a primal scream concert in 1994 when we found out Kurt Cobain had died and we both held hands and cried whilst Bobby Gillespe dedicated Damaged to him.

"About 6 years ago Emma emigrated to Australia where she now lives with her lovely husband Stuart and their two beautiful children. In 2006 just before she left she got married and at about 10.30pm after a few sherries we re-enacted the Whole Of The Moon by the Waterboys (the ultimate action women song) for her entire wedding party. We still keep in touch, but it would be incredible to have a Memory Tape of our first ever Now That's What I Call Action Women on the radio."

Heres The Tracklisting

Side One

1) The Waterboys: The Whole Of The Moon

2) The Pogues: Fairytale of New York

3) Lemonheads: Into Your Arms

4) PJ Harvey: Sheela Na Gig

5) Ministry: NWO

6) Janes Addiction: Been Caught Stealing

7) Sheep On Drugs: Motorbike

8) Sisters Of Mercy: Temple Of Love

9) PWEI: Bulletproof

10): Senser: Eject

11) Consolidated: You Suck

Side 2

1) Therapy: Screamager

2) Undertones: Teenage Kicks

3) Meatloaf: Bat Out Of Hell

4) REM: Half A World Away

5) Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive

6) Mudhoney: Touch Me I'm Sick

7) The Smiths: Please Please Please

8) The Lemonheads: Mrs Robinson

9) The Cure: Trust

10) Utah Saints: Something Good.

11) Eat: Shame

Would you like to send Lauren your Memory Tape?
A lovely story of friendship and music from Emily Birch..

"I have known one of my best friends, Penny, since we were eleven. Now we are both nearing thirty, it won't be long before we can celebrate 20 years of friendship! Our love of music has followed us over the years, so that now many of my memories of our fun times together are tied up with music.

When Penny and I went to university in Sheffield she only lived five minutes away from me, but we would regularly send each other post. Because we are firm believers that receiving post is GREAT! I would often get a mixtape from her, full of songs we both loved, proper classics, and some new bands I'd never heard of.

Penny is responsible for introducing me to the wonders of Joni Mitchell, Tom McRae and Beth Orton. What a gal! These mixtapes were often decorated beautifully, with great care and attention.

And now the tapes live in the glovebox in my car, which is so old it still has a tape deck. I love listening to these tapes on long journeys, remembering what fun we've had and knowing that there are many more years of great times to be enjoyed with my lovely friend.

I have picked one such tape for your listening pleasure, from March 2004 (yes Penny is an organised mixtape compiler!)".
