My night at The X Factor...

I managed to get my hands on 'the hottest ticket in town' (as a loser might say) last night. I went along to the studios in Wembley as a guest of Peter Dickson. Peter Dickson is of course the voice of The X Factor. It was a little odd sitting next to him as his voice boomed around the studio.

It is such a slick show - effortlessly brilliant - nothing goes wrong. Ever. It was very odd to be walking around backstage with Cheryl, Danni and all the others just wandering around. You feel like you know them all. Then Alicia Keys walked in:

alicia.jpgHad a little tour of the backstage area and met all the remaining contestants. Danyl mentioned that he listened to the big show, even back in the days when it was on at 4am. Flattery will get you everywhere - including a mention on the blog.

Here is a photo of me with Joe (another awful bit of phone photography)

joemc.jpg

Had a brief chat with Louis who is very friendly, met Simon Cowell's brother who sounds scarily like him and also Gordon Smart from the Sun. He offered to buy me a drink, then realised he didn't have any money on him - so I paid.

A few little bits that you wouldn't have seen on the TV:

- During the advert after the opening number, about 50 people ran on stage with pins and popped all the balloons and swept them off stage.

- Also during the breaks, members of the audience are invited on stage to sing in front of the crowd. The judges leave.

- As Cheryl was leaving, a photographer nearly got run over trying to get a shot of her in the car.

- All the contestants hang around the corridors chatting like they're waiting at school for the next lesson to start.

- Dermot smells really good. He walked past doing a link and a caught a whiff. Is that weird?

- Olly's dad is a lovely bloke.

Big car vs. Small car

I was just popping outside for some lunch and I saw a battle going on. A pretty blond woman in a the Range Rover tried to get in this very large space. She was trying for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, a fat man in a cheeky little Ford sneaked in.

Here is a quite brilliant diagram showing you exactly what happened:

The pub landlord popped in for a chat today - he's got a new book and DVD coming out and he told me about his Christmas plans and how much he disliked Thierry Henry.

I saw this ages ago and took a photo on my phone. Meant to show you on here. Forgot. Just remembered. That is all. My favourite is the 'free tackle pull out'.

ZAC EFRON!

Greg James|13:59 UK time, Friday, 20 November 2009

This lovely little fella came in today to have a chat about his new film 'Me and Orsen Wells'. Zac is incredibly famous but a very down to earth bloke and we chatted girlfriends, cricket and farting.

He seems very calm and focussed, just a very friendly person. The new film is a change of direction from his High School Musical days but I really liked it and he carries it off well. A star.

Great hair, too.

My studio was invaded by 'Hacker The Dog' from CBBC this afternoon. He is doing a sponsored silence for Children In Need and came in to ask me if I would sponsor him.

I said yes.

Here I am with him:

This is going to be happening on Friday. For BBC Children in Need, I'll be 'doing something different' and doing a LIVE weather bulletin at 1027 on the BBC News Channel.

I am petrified. No script, no autocue, nowhere to hide.

Yesterday, the lovely Florence came into the show. She's a very busy lady and it was nice of her to drop in. We had a little chat about what a brilliant year she's had and I played a little game with her where she had to guess which machine sound effects I was playing. Genius eh? That's the big show difference!

Listen to the interview here - it's 1hr 35mins in....

First up was a little chat with Robbie Williams at Maida Vale after his Live Lounge performance.

Then 'hot-footed' it back to Radio 1 for the big show. Peter Andre and JLS were on today. I played a little game with JLS called 'JLS or DFS'. Listen again to find out what that was. It was here at 2hrs 50 mins in.

We talked about our height difference and I played a game called 'Mysterious Girls' where I played him clips of women and he had to tell me who it was. For every one he guessed correctly, I played 30 seconds of his new single. How did he get on? Find out here 1hr and 10mins in to the show

Greg James|11:00 UK time, Tuesday, 10 November 2009

On Friday's show, Dizzee Rascal popped in:

As it was a Friday, I also had a live studio audience on the show. Also, Tim Westwood decided to invite himself along. Always a pleasure to see him.

In order to play Dizzee's new single, I hid a copy of it upstairs in the office and he had to find it. It was streamed live on BeckyCam too for all to see. He found it, after getting my boss in a headlock. Not sure why.

Lots going on...

Good morning! Hope all is well with you - a couple of things to let you know about...

I presented an award on stage with 'The Andre' yesterday at BBC Switch Live. A weird but very fun day. When he met me, he said, "Jeeeeze, couldn't they have given me someone a bit shorter". Lovely bloke though.

There was a lot of screaming when we walked out, and I'm pretty sure most of it was for me.

Went along and saw Michael McIntyre last Tuesday:

And have a look at this brilliant impression Jon Culshaw has done of him:

Dreams can come true, as Gabrielle once said...and today, it did for Laura Tobin from the BBC Weather Centre. She is obsessed, like many people, with Jon and she did a pretty decent interview to be fair to her. There were a few tears and did want to kiss him - I told her not to do that.

Happy Birthday Maida Vale...

Greg James|12:00 UK time, Monday, 2 November 2009

I absolutely loved Friday's show - so many incredible live tracks from the last 75 years of the BBC's Maida Vale studios. The Cure, The Strokes, Bloc Party, Joy Division, Roni Size, The Police and many more. If you didn't hear it, you should, you'll love it. Have a listen here.

A lot of people text in confused as to what Maida Vale actually is - fair enough. It's a complex of 7 BBC studios where some of the world's biggest acts have performed. It's home to the BBC's Symphony Orchestra and where Jonathan Ross records FIlm 2009. Have a look here for more information

Fearne did her show live from Maida Vale and had Snow Patrol as her house band. They recorded a few tracks especially for the day.
