A distant memory...

I made this video on the morning of my final Early Breakfast show before I started on the dizzy heights of daytime. I have just got round to editing it together and it made me kind of miss it in some ways. In many other ways, I'm not missing it at all. I do however, miss using 'I'm too tired' as an excuse to get out of anything though.

It's my last wake up routine.

And I'm wearing a suit to mark the occasion.

Newton Faulkner is an absolute pro...

Went to a stunningly good intimate Newton Faulkner gig last night. All in aid of his new album 'Rebuilt by Humans' which was out yesterday. He is superb live and a very talented bloke. His gig wasn't without a few technical problems though. He tried to use an old fashioned cassette as his backing band but the tape seemed to be a bit strectched and was therefore out of tune.

He then played 'Dream Catch Me' and a string on his guitar broke. He wasn't having the best luck last night but he seems a really nice guy and totally won the crowd over. Even the traditionally docile Producer Neil was clapping along - for about 10 seconds.

Good morning lovely people, hope you had a lovely weekend. The start of another week and as much as I adore my job, I wouldn't mind doing what I did yesterday all over again which was to lie in bed watching season 7 of 24. But anyway, here we go with week 2 of the big afternoon show.

This is my favourite thing of the day. incy, wincy spider he looks so full of hope, incy wincy spider climbs up the shirt of The Pope.

I was at Chester University which was rammed and a lot of fun. I did fall off the stage though.

Good night in general though.

Good afternoon!

I went to see The Veronicas last night at a place called Koko in Camden. Impressive gig and the fans were REALLY hard core. They knew all the words from their first album which wasn't even released over here!

I was pretty impressed with this photo I took.

It's my favourite thing of the day:

Welcome to Thursday - I'm just on the way to Maida Vale to meet Shakira to record a little bit of Live Lounge Extra for the big afternoon show later on.

This week is rolling along nicely - nearly the weekend and the end of the first week of the new show. Knackering and weird trying to get everything sorted and try and understand that I don't need to nap anymore!

Today's favourite thing of the day is taken from Blue Peter - they attempted a world record of "mattress dominos" and it just made me laugh.

Eagle-eyed viewers may also spot Laura Tobin (BBC weathergirl and friend of the show) on one of the mattresses...she gets around.

OK, it's becoming slightly more normal now...I think it'll be a few weeks before I accept that this actually is my new show - new experiences but so far, 'loving it'.

You may have just heard on air that Fearne has decorated my desk for me - it looks lovely! And odd.

This is my favourite thing of the day:

I am particularly enjoying the effort made to purchase wooden lettering with my initials. They are hanging on my monitor.

And here is the hoola skirt I was provided with. It only fits over one leg:

Good morning everyone! Welcome along to a brand new era - the all new big afternoon show - with added bigness. Join me today at 1pm for a load of new guff to help you through your afternoon. I am sitting at my brand new desk writing this and can hardly contain my excitement.

Some lovely people have also sent me and the team a load of muffins too - a great start to the day. I must admit, it is a little odd have a routine and joining the real world again - I'll still want to go to bed at 8pm tonight due to force of habit, but the getting up at 2:45am will not be missed!

So, everyday on the show, I will be giving you my 'favourite thing of the day' - it could be a website, bit of audio, video, story - anything that has tickled me basically. Today, it is from last week's Shooting Stars on BBC2 with Vic and Bob. It's a song which had no introduction and made me laugh A LOT when I saw it.

Really enjoyed today's show. I set the challenge of getting a different caller on EVERY link. And...we did it. Thank you if you were one of them!

One more big early show tomorrow. Be there from 4 because you'll miss out otherwise. I have been told by Producer Neil that there are a few surprises.

Anyway...Just looking back through a few old pictures and this one pretty much sums up my time on that show. I've loved it, but I'm dead:

The week that was...

Well, it wasn't strictly a holiday - contrary to popular belief. It was a holiday from the big show but I was working nice and hard on some TV believe it or not. It's a BBC Three documentary that will be on sometime in November about young Brits abroad in Magaluf. I will of course let you know when it's on, in case you care.

Off I popped then last Monday morning to Stansted airport for a journey into the unknown Well, I know what happens on those holidays - I mean TV - I haven't done an awful lot.

It was a really busy week, non-stop actually. I took my trunks in the hope that I might get the odd afternoon on the beach. Fat chance. We were filming all day then came out at night to get footage of the naked drunks. Let me state this right now, a night out in Magaluf is NO FUN if you're not drinking and seen as the 'squares with the cameras'.

Now, I don't consider myself easily shocked, but I saw some things that were pretty wrong, including naked games involving men's bits.

The crew from BBC Manchester (who are making the show) were a lot of fun and many laughs were had. When you're all collectively shattered and working hard filming people having the best holidays of their lives then you need to find ways of getting through it!

Here are a few lovely photos from the week:

Spot the rubbish mistake on the table stickers. BBC 1 Radio. Poor effort:

bcmradio1.jpg

I was interested to see a group of holiday makers sitting around at 9:35am drinking and watching a Peter Kay DVD - at a pub:

peterkay.jpg

One of the assistant producers, Kirk, was a dreadful parker. This was attempt 15, and this is still pretty poor:

badparking.jpg

This is the main man Colin, the producer. He was the boss of the week - but found it hard to put the camera on the tripod:

colin.jpg

A nice arty shot:

Simon who was working on the show won the 'stupid comment of the trip award' for thinking this little island 500 yards from the Magaluf beach was Ibiza. We soon put him right:

Check THIS out:

Radio 1's queen of experimental beats did a show for BBC Choice (now BBC Three) called Mary Anne's Bikes. And this is the superb title sequence...

Hello there. I'm very bleary eyed this morning. A combination of a busy weekend and doing the exhausting but very fun '10 Hour Take Over' yesterday and not finishing until 7pm. Back here now though and it's currently 4:09am as I write this.

On a side note, watched The Wrestler last night before bed - my review would be - "very good".

Anyway, the big weekend started on Saturday as I covered for Vernon in the morning. Then I went searching for a new bike and discovered that they are more expensive than I thought. That evening, Berties nightclub in Newquay was the destination so flew off to there from Gatwick and arrived just in time for a quick curry then on with the hits. Great fun night. This was sent in by Jonny Fox this morning who was there: Note Producer Neil lurking in the background like an assassin.

bertiiies.jpg

The next morning we a had time to kill before the flight home so decided to go on a little day trip. I decided on the 'Lappa Valley Steam Railway'. Yes, it is supposed to be for kids, but it's brilliant:

Always head for 1st class: (I look and felt about 6)

1stclass.jpg

Lappa Valley Boating Lake, including crazy golf:

These battleship boats were particularly good. I didn't go in them, but was shooting at the them from the side. Simple things eh? I also went on the go-karts (which I love) (not pictured)

boats.jpgI took this picture from the sky on the way home and though it was 'nice':

The end.

Hell.
