Toast...

Just got back from the MGMT gig tonight and it was a little bit disappointing. I really like their album and there's some brilliant tracks on it, however, there was just something missing from it. I don't really know what, but it was just a bit flat. Had a lovely curry before hand though. Still a very impressive album - perhaps an off night. We all get under the weather - I've been feeling ill all week. Think I've got a cold coming on. Awful.

I'm sitting around in my flat after only just making the last tube home. I pegged it down the escalators, and only just squeezed through the train doors. It was the last tube of the night though so it would have been a long walk home if I'd missed it. Or a £30 taxi journey and although it was payday today, it seems a bit stupid to pay that. Plus, it's always funny to see the drunks on the train. There's always one boozed up idiot who tries to perform an improvised stand-up comedy set in the carriage. I wanted to tell him he looked like an arse but there would have been no point.

I always have toast when I get home after a night out. Toast with Marmite. (I'm obliged to say that other yeast extract products are available).

So, the Christmas schedule came out today which I'm really excited about. I'm on a fair amount and I have 3 weeks off early breakfast. Apart from doing 10-1 on Christmas Day, I'm covering Scott's show for 3 weeks which I'm really looking forward to. Getting up at half 2 in these Winter months is so much more difficult than in the Summer and it'll be nice to get some lie ins!

I was discussing the logistics of the live 'Christmas Cook Along' with Producer Neil tonight and we think it's very possible. All we need is a halogen cooker and a microwave. Simple really. I want to make the Christmas Day show as fun as possible because it's a great day to be on air. Loads of people will be listening and it's such a brilliant time of year. My favourite time actually. Plus, all the rubbishy local stations will be pre-recorded all day or have some generic 'what rubbish presents do you get' show on. Radio 1 is so much better than that.

This is where this blog is being written:

My room and whole flat is a mess at the moment. It's been a busy week and I've only used this place to sleep really. Clothes everywhere, dirty pots and pans, unopened post. Tomorrow is 'sort everything out' day.

Probably time to go to bed now isn't it...I've been falling asleep listening to Coldplay's new EP for the last few nights and I absolutely love it. It's my record of the week next week so I'll play you my favourite tracks from it. It's very impressive I think. Consistently churning out great pop songs that band. Love them. So much.

Tatty bye!

Well, if you're a fan, you'll initially be saddened by this photograph and then after about 10 seconds you'll start laughing. It's the hot new look for Winter '08...

I've decided that Friday is now dress up day for Newsbeat at 5:30. I figured that the BBC newsreaders on the TV have to wear suits and posh stuff so I thought the lovely Newsbeat legends should do too.

Here's the first culprit. Newsbeat's Toby Sealey:

Have a look at this Newsbeat interview with Lee Evans.

It's an interesting interview but I just think the cut-aways are weird. Hands, biscuits, microphone, groin. What's with that? Is that arty? Or a drunk cameraman?

I'm no Gock Wang but I quite like wearing nice clothes. No high fashion stuff or stupid hats but you know, nice boy stuff. I'm deejaying tonight for the relaunch of everyone's favourite women's weekly magazine, 'More!' I always have problems choosing stuff that goes together. It's so annoying. I want to wear a dark pair of jeans but does that mean I can't wear my white trainers for example? Plus, I've got this nice blue jumper, and my coat is also blue, but a different shade of blue, how many shades of blue can you wear? I've also got to do my hair all nice for them as I'll be photographed to be in their magazine and not look like I get up at half 2 every morning. Oh dear, maybe it's best I just stay home and eat cheese.

CAN'T SLEEP.

What's with this? Mess here. Arrrrrgh. Had a really productive day today but it seems my head was too full of nonsense to sleep properly. I woke up because I realised I'd forgotten to put the bin out. Loser. All I can think about now is the bin in the kitchen smelling of the last 10 day's left overs.

I've just taken the bin outside. It's flipping freezing in London tonight. It's also nearly December which is my favourite month of the year. I love Christmas and it's also my birthday...Very soon! I'm also preoccupied with trying to organise something to do to celebrate. It's always a pain trying to sort something out at this time of year. Everyone is always busy. If anyone wants to organise me a surprise birthday, then feel free. Probably best not to advertise it online though or it might all go a bit 'Pete Tong' - if you know what I mean.

Need to sleep now. Bye. Brap.

I'm experimenting for a month using a light box to try and help lighten my mood in the morning as Seasonal Affective Disorder can really mess up your day...

I spoke to a nice lady called Carol who reckons that after a month, I'll be happier and in her words "will recapture the joy of living". That might be a bit extreme as I'm suffering from tiredness, not depression. However, I'll give it a go and you can chart my progress on the big blog.

That's all for now. Don't forget to set aside an hour or so later to watch Lead Balloon. Just do it to shut me up!

Brap.

News image

Jack Dee has always been one of my favourite comedians ever since I discovered his stand up DVDs when I was at school. I think I relate to him being so grumpy at every day things. Him, along with Ricky Gervais and Larry David are my comedy idols because everything they seem to do is of great quality. There is no evidence of 'selling out' at any point in their career which can't be said for a lot of British comedians. If you haven't seen much of their stuff I suggest you go and buy one of their DVDs or have a little search on YouTube for some clips.

The reason for this post is to let you know about Jack Dee's incredible sitcom 'Lead Balloon' which is back for a third series. This show started out very low key and was on at about 11pm on BBC4. It has now made it's way to BBC2 on Thursday nights at 10pm and is just fantastic. It is subtle, beautifully written, incredibly funny and doesn't suffer from a hideous laughter track.

If you can access the iPlayer, you can catch up on the first two episodes of this new series. It is brilliant.

Episode 2 of 'Lead Balloon' - Click here

This show is a hidden gem.

Do you have any shows that you love that you want to shout about? If anyone suggests 'Little Britain USA', I'll have your membership taken away, Only joking. Or am I?

Do you think they realise?

I ended up in South Kensington yesterday as my girlfriend wanted to visit a 'nice' bit of London. South Kensington is very posh and home to London's mega rich. Not even super rich, they are MEGA rich there.

I passed this supermarket for people with lots of money and couldn't help but notice this sign... Maybe the people who shop here don't find things like this funny. Or maybe I'm just really immature.

Also, why no sausages on a Thursday? I was going to pop back there later...Ooo Matron.

Following on from the hugely popular earlier post about one of Beyonce's dancers, I've stumbled across this. It's amazing. The gender is quite clear in this instance. Quite a famous bloke too...

Stuck on a stupid train...

Hi blog fans. Thanks for your comments on the Beyonce video below. The general consensus seems obvious if you read them...

Anyway, I'm stuck on a train on the way to Leeds as I'm deejaying tonight at a club called 'Tiger Tiger'. Apparently there is a power failure on the track which doesn't sound like a good thing.

I thought I'd crack my laptop out and fire up the internet. I'm at a station called 'Newark North Gate'.

I'm quite bored but I just worked out what rude word you can make out of Newark. I think I'd be good on Countdown.

I'm a red blooded male and I think Beyonce is one of the most beautiful women in the world, however here's a couple of things.

1. This video is for a single off her new album that has already been released in the U.S. I love this song - if it is released in the UK I think it'll be a huge hit. However, in the video, she scares me a little bit. I don't like the violent dancing and there is just something a little odd about it.

2. Rumours abound on the internet that one of the dancers is of dubious gender, i.e. is it a man or a woman? Look closely and discuss.

Real or not real?

This morning I spoke to Andy who claimed to be a pilot. He said he did a 'Welcome Along' tannoy announcement on his flight the other day. However, some of the terminology he used raised suspicions as to whether or not he was a real pilot, so I asked him for some evidence.

He sent in this photo of his wings as proof. I'm not sure this photo proves anything.

I was shocked to find out that on the iPlayer today, it said that Radio 1 was 'off-air'. I went outside and flagged down a taxi driver to see if this was true or not. Luckily, we were on.

I was flicking around the Radio 1 website yesterday and came across some archived photos from 2007 of Edith and Nihal's trip to Zante.

Is it just me or does this look a little like Nihal is pleased to see the cameraman?

Please leave your comments below. I can't stop laughing.

My weekend...

Greg James|03:46 UK time, Monday, 10 November 2008

Good morning! I had an excellent weekend, fully relaxed, recharged and ready for the new week. However, I'm suffering from Monday morning syndrome this morning!

I went back to my hometown of Bishops Stortford, saw a few old mates and went back to the club we all used to go to when we were at school. It hasn't changed a bit. Obviously. There weren't many people in there, so we had the run of the dancefloor! I did meet this bloke though:

alig.jpg

I'm not really sure why he was dressed like that. He was the only one in fancy dress.

I also went for a couple of rounds at a golf driving range where you compete with everyone by hitting balls into various targets on a massive field. It's called Top Golf and there's a few around the country I think. Really good fun, and particularly enjoyable was the section of the afternoon where we tried to hit the balls at the ball collecting cart.

Oops2.jpg

I also made an awful blunder at a cash machine. I accidentally took out 400 quid by pressing the wrong button. In my defence, it was a really old machine and it took ages to respond, like an old computer. I pressed the button to say 'cash with no receipt', it didn't do anything, so I pressed it again and at that second, it changed to the 'amounts' page. Awful. Also, how many cash machines have you ever seen that give out £400 anyway! Nicely overdrawn therefore this morning.

What a brilliant night it was at The Royal Albert Hall last night. As I said on air, it was the best gig I've ever been to. If you're a fan of The Killers, you NEED to listen again to it. It is really magical. Also, the documentary before the gig is very special and gets the Greg James thumbs up. Set aside 3 hours this weekend or something listen to the Zane build up, the documentary and the gig. Sit back, turn your phone off and let it wash around your ears. I can't recommend it enough. Despite what Moyles says.

Anyway...

I've been up to my old tricks again. Very tired sitting here in the office and I found a secret stash of air fresheners. Now, you won't realise this, but everyday, I sit at Piers' (the boss) desk in the morning as it is closest to Producer Neil's so we can discuss the big show. I've decided to gaffer tape one of these air fresheners underneath his desk.

glade.jpg

He'll be quite confused I imagine, and will probably think the carpets have been cleaned or something. As I type, I can feel myself getting a headache because the smell is so strong!

Have a nice day Piers!

P.S. I'm safe writing this because he never reads it anyway!

I was alerted to this video today and thought I should share it with you! It is one of my favourites of the last few months. It's of an appearance by Westwood on Soccer AM at the weekend. Watch very closely at the end as his shoe flies off. Excellent.

Hope you had a lovely weekend, I had a great time in Northern Ireland and I deejayed at a club called Katy Daly's...Here's some people I met:

Cannot flipping wait for the Killers tonight. Oh my god, they are like so freeeeekin awesome (to coin a phrase). I will, of course, take some sneaky pics and shove them on here tomorow morning.

P.S. In response to a few comments on the blog, I'd like to let you all know that although I don't post my own, I do actually read them all and it goes without saying that they are all appreciated!
