Good morning! This title needs to be sung in the style of Cliff by the way. Oh, just to let you know that this blog might be a bit odd as I'm very asleep. And I'll tell you for why...

Got in at 5am this morning after a brilliant but absolutley packed evening. Firstly, I went along to Comedy Dave's evening session of his wedding for a few hours and it was a brilliant do. Couple of highlights...Carrie did Camilla Ice again in karaoke, and at one point, I looked round and Dominic had hijacked the bar and was serving drinks to everyone. Oh, and Rachel's cakes were amazing...and she was very paranoid that someone (I) was going to fall into them.

So, I had to leave the party at about 10pm to get to a gig I was doing at West Sands Caravan Park in West Sussex. Here is a picture of me in their Green Room:

hoover.jpg

It was a very funny gig last night. On before me was the One and Only, Chesney Hawkes, but, by the time I got there, he'd gone. Show and go. I was introduced on stage in the best way I ever have done. They played a piece of rousing classical music, stood me on the stage and then dramatically revealed me by swinging the curtains back! Smoke machine going off, strobe lights, Producer Neil laughing at the side of stage and me, 'the div', standing there. "Welcome along", I said, and then played Basshunter. Very strange. I played a few big tunes from my handbag of hits, met loads of lovely people and drove back to London to get about 3 hours sleep as I'm up now to fly away on holiday at midday!

So, in case you didn't know, I'm off for two weeks now and as much as I love my job, I'm so looking forward to it! It's been a brilliant but very busy summer and I'm shattered! So much has happened: Big Weekend, Mallorca, Newquay, covering Scott's show, Pendulum Live Lounge and the GCSE maths exam to name but a few. If you listen to me regualarly or even if you're a new viewer of the blog, just have a look back at the previous couple of months blog posts. I'd forgotten how much stuff has happened!

So, that's all for a couple of weeks. As much as I would like to blog from my holiday, I think it may be important for my sanity that I don't!

Oh, one last thing, Max from 1Xtra who is covering my show, is going to be doing some bits and bobs on here for the next couple of weeks. Make her feel welcome (along) and make sure you comment loads!

And here is a little video that I found kind of on the Olympics theme again. It made me laugh a lot.

Over and out.

Oh no! I forgot one other thing...

Remember on Friday, Tom Bateman from Newsbeat was wearing an increble shirt. I said it was like a patchwork quilt. Something that a bored Grandma would knit. Well, I said I'd take a photo of it for you:

tombateman.jpg

I think that's all for now. Best I stop now I think? Yeah. Have a great couple of weeks.

Welcome along to BBC Breakfast...

Hi there exam fans...

So today was the day. The Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJs found out their results of the GCSE Maths exam we all took way back in June. Have a peek here to see how we all got on.

In the meantime, here's a little video of me chatting all seriously about exams. You can't div around on BBC Breakfast. However, I told Chris Moyles that I'd touch my right ear everytime my brain was telling me to swear. And also, can you spot the sneaky little "welcome along" in the interview? 10 points to everyone who gets it right...

If you received your results recently and you could do with a bit of pro advice, then check out The Surgery pages, or call the Radio 1 exam line on: 0808 100 8000 (calls free from a landline but mobile costs vary)

Why would you have this done in a shop?!

Was wondering around delirious this morning after my little appearance on BBC Breakfast and I saw this woman having a massage and the proper 'cucumber treatment' in the middle of a department store!

Just made me chuckle.

Have a look at this video from the Olympics. It's just one of many examples from the diving that made me feel a bit guilty for watching it. Is it not a bit invasive?! What do you think?

Request Show TV...

Greg James|13:49 UK time, Sunday, 17 August 2008

I did a video for Fearne and Reggie's Request Show TV feature on Friday afternoon. I decided to do Coldplay's 'Violet Hill'. Have a look at the finished article below. I think the costume could do with some more work, as well as a few other things, but I think I've done the video justice. Kind of.

It's another fun way of requesting a song on their show. And it shows proper dedication to your favourite artists! You can do your own versions of these and send them to Fearne and Reg - just click here for the details.

The real video is below so you can see what this mess above is based on. On reflection, there perhaps aren't that many similarities. Apart from the violent hammer bit. Also, the real one has had 8 million views!

They are one of my favourite bands in the world and I managed to get along to Brixton Academy on Thursday night to see them. They are superb live, highly recommended.

kol1.jpg

kol2.jpg

They spent a load of money on making the stage look pretty, as you can see, and the gig was flawless.

Except, some numpty standing in front of me was doing camp dancing to some of their heaviest tracks. It was really annoying me. He was slightly taller than me, which is quite tall (!), had skinny jeans on, pointy shoes and big bushy curly hair. He was also trying to call all his mates throughout the gig in a desperate effort to make sure EVERYONE knew he was having a great time. Why do people do that!? Yes, ring one mate if 'your' song comes on, but don't broadcast the whole bloody concert on it! So, this guy was doing dancing that wouldn't have been out of place at a Kylie concert and moving his head too close to me, so much so that I could smell his hair at times. What's with that?

Have a lovely weekend, more guff on here later no doubt. Have a listen to Switch on Sunday night, which I'm covering. Loads of good stuff on there including Jonas Brothers, Sugababes, McFly and me old chums The Automatic in the studio...

P.S. Also doing Scott's show on Monday afternoon (another lie in - YIIIIPPEEEE!)

I'll do a weekly update on a Monday to see how we're getting on...
Good luck everyone!

Look what I've found...

...Whilst clearing out my virus ridden computer, I stumbled across this:

livewirezane.jpg

This photo was taken about 3 years ago when I was at Uni in Norwich and I was on my student radio station, Livewire. Zane was doing a DJ gig at my Uni that night and I managed to steal an interview with him before he went on.

Three years later, I'm doing a soundclash with him on his show. Very weird to look back at this. Very. Just thought I'd share it with you!

By the way, without sucking up too much, I'm busy sorting out a load of boring stuff at home tonight, and there is not many better shows on the radio than his. It's brilliant. Heard the new Sigur Ros track tonight and I think I'm going to pick it as my Record of The Week next week because I think it's amazing. Also, Red Light Company are doing a session at Maida Vale tonight - I wasn't too sure on them before tonight but that's the beauty of Zane's show, you get to know the band and you hear stuff you wouldn't hear on any other radio station. OK, enough sucking up now.

Goodnight from me.

The funnier side of the Olympics...

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that the Olympics in Beijing have started. Check out the BBC's very own mini site here, or, if you're really into it, there is of course, an Olympics blog.

However, if that isn't your cup of tea, for all your comedy needs from the Olympics, check these bad boys out:

Anyways, that's enough laughing at people blundering about.

If you are a keen follower of the Olympics, Annie Mac has got Jake Humphrey on her show today live from Beijing.

Miserable day - time to listen to some music...

Blog comments are currently unavailable. Find out more.

Greg James|08:55 UK time, Tuesday, 12 August 2008

So, it's a miserable day in London and many other parts of the UK today, as Chris has been saying on his show. There goes summer. Typically, when everyone's back at school/college/Uni etc in September, it'll be scorching no doubt!

Anyway, recovered from my weekend in Newquay and I'm currently sitting around at work listening to a few bits of music. Had a listen to the new record from Daniel Powter - it's not the best. Certainly not a contender for Record of The Week anytime soon. I have similar feelings about Will Young's new record. Stinker.

However, there is a great new tune by Moby and Freemasons called 'Disco Lies', and something else that I think is going to be huge is a track called "Handlebars" by Flobots. Jo has been playing it lots, and loves it too - have a look at the video here on her blog. I first heard it on Colin's show about 2 months ago and it sounded flipping amazing in my car whilst I was bombing round town. I think it's going to be a BIG hit. Mark my words.

This afternoon, I'll be mostly going to the gym and listening to Noah and the Whale's album which was delivered to me yesterday. Excellent!

WOW. Long journey that. 300 miles to be precise. Haven't slept since my 3 hours last night, therefore I am a tired mess. It's lovely to be here and the people at BBC Cornwall are extremely friendly. Bad news is that it's raining though.

Just popped into the studios Chris and I are in tomorrow to have a little nose around. No need to really but being a geek, it's always fun to press a few buttons and break stuff.

After a 5 month break, Cat, the show's LA Correspondent returned this morning. She lives in Los Angeles now but is originally from the UK.

From next week, she'll be popping up on the show to give us some insights from across the pond. A bit like Perez Hilton, but less annoying and better looking:

If you were listening this morning, I did my new game "The Wind Tunnel". It's kind of like those 'mystery sound' things you hear on rubbish radio stations but with a slight twist.

I play you one of my guffs and you have to guess what I had for dinner the night before. I found it quite difficult to do one this morning and it took ages. It took so long in fact that I got snapped on the webcam:

Let's not forget that this is the same studio that Jo Whiley uses to do her show too. Haha.

By the way, if at any point you think the show has got too weird, just let me know.

vaughan_forblog.jpgSad news yesterday about Michael Vaughan stepping down as England cricket captain. He has been one of the most successful ever and is a fantastic player. I am a big cricket fan and when I used to captain my old school team, he was someone I really looked up to. Hopefully he'll win his place back in the team for the next series because when he's on top form, he's one of the best batsmen in the world.

Anyway, enough babble. If you're a bit of a cricket fan and want some very interesting insights, have a look at this great blog done by Jonathan Agnew (The BBC's Cricket Correspondent)

Just quickly, thought I'd shove this video on of me at Windsor races last week. I was asked to judge the 'best dressed lady' competition as obviously I am quite the expert on dresses and hats.

Here's me bumbling around looking all awkward:

Are you old before your time?

oldies.jpgI was chatting about this on Friday's show. It all started because of this little incident:

I woke up at about 1pm after a little nap on a muggy afternoon last week, opened the window and actually said out loud to my flatmate:

"ooo, we could do with a bit of rain to clear the air".

I couldn't believe it. I think I'm older than my 22 years. It's the sort of thing my dad would say.

I asked you for your comments on the blog and during the show.

Here's some of my favourite texts from Friday morning:

- Gregg last week in a club i said "no way are they old enough to be in here" about some kids! Lee 23 lancs.

- Im 16 and i love time team :-(

- You're getting old when you hear a remake of a song and remember, and prefer, the original! Lindsey, 26, essex

- I baked a fruit pie 4 the village show and got 1st prize against all the old dears ! Rich in the red rocket !

- Im 25 and have been in bed by 9.30 for the last i dont no how long. X x x old, i think so. Ricey. Weymouth

If you've got some of your own ideas, just leave a comment on the 'comments' bit below...

AND...OH MY GOD. Another one happened to me today...I went out to do a bit of shopping and I bought a 'Bag For Life'. As I was leaving the shop, I hated myself a bit for realising what I'd just done.

Pendulum...

Greg James|03:48 UK time, Friday, 1 August 2008

Thought I'd better blog this as I haven't metioned it on here...

So, was sitting around in Green Park in London with a couple of old Uni mates and all of a sudden, my executive producer Piers rings me.

This is Piers:

piers.jpgAnyway, he rings me to say that Jo is still not very well and that Annie Mac isn't available and that he'd like me to do a double shift and cover her show. Jo's show is one of the ones that I always wanted to have a go at plus....one of my favourite bands were in in the Live Lounge. Pendulum!

So, although it was a double shift and I was an absolute mess by the end of her show, I felt so privileged to have them as my first Live Lounge. It was an incredible performance and widely regarded as one of the best ever. I said after they finished their cover of Coldplay's 'Violet Hill' that I hadn't heard many better Live Lounges than that. Without getting too corporate and nobby, this is the sort of thing that makes Radio 1 stand out. No one else can do that.

Check it all out here.
