The Big Drive Home - Day 1

Welcome along.
Had a lovely time covering Scott's show for the first day today, so good to be on during daylight hours. Absolutely incredible to be able to pop out for a couple of pints after the show too. Scott has the best hours ever.
Anyway, got through lots of stuff today on the show including a brand new feature which doesn't really have a name but its where I asked you to text in your favourite song in the world ever to 81199 and played a 30 second countdown clock and after that, I froze the text message screen and played the top three songs in the inbox.
Here's a video of what happens in the studio during the show:
And...Here's a screenshot of THAT frozen inbox!

textconsolefreeze.jpgAlso, I tried out a new game which was inspired by someone on the radio a few years ago trying it for real and with no hint of irony. This afternoon, I debuted "hangman" on the radio. I think it went well actually. I bamboozled you all, including Zane. The missing word was....XYLOPHONE! Here's the sheet I was using to draw the man hanging:

Today in the office...

It's been quite nice hanging around the office during the day and not being a tired mess. Got in about midday and started sorting out stuff for the show.

So, had a spare bit of time on my hands and I've had this idea for a while and decided to try it out. It's a very simple game and one you can try right now. All you need is a digital camera and the ability to be a bit sneaky.

Here is an example of how to play the game. You basically pretend that you're taking a still photo, when actually, you're filming them getting all awkward. See how long you can make the awkwardness last. This is Pippa who works at Radio 1:

Sumo, Switch, sleep and, oh yeah, some blokes called The Jonas Brothers...

This weekend, I did nothing. I was so so knackered from last week that I just needed one of those lame weekends. You know what I mean? Watched a bit of Glastonbury, bit of the tennis. Lovely. Also, slept for 14 hours on Saturday night. Incredible.

Anyway, did Switch tonight and played out an interview with The Jonas Brothers that I did on Friday afternoon. Interviewed them on an open top tour bus going round London which was a new experience! Pictures of that here.

Here's a vid of me and the Jonas brothers on the bus.

They're really nice boys and we had a really good laugh. Catchy records as well and they seem really down to earth so I'm all for them. They get the Greg James thumbs up. And that counts for alot you know.

Just writing this at home as I think about a few bits for tomorrow's show - and recover from doing Switch tonight. Switch is such a busy show, great fun and so much going on that I'm shattered after it!

During the show, some Gladiators came in (Enigma and Tempest) - two lovely ladies from the show to surprise Reggie (he is a big fan of these two).

Anywaaaaays, this might be the first time you've ever read this blog as its only been advertised from today, so, welcome along.

A blog really only works if everyone chips in so please feel free to comment, post stuff, links, funny stuff, whatever you want really. I'm going to try and make it as personal as possible. If I'm grumpy one day, I'll write about that, if I get annoyed with an old granny on a bus, I'll write about that. Its a little insight into me and Radio 1. Should be a laugh!

Cricket, Chappers and Award Ceremonies

Hello and welcome along.

Photo: Sean Dempsey/PA Wire.Yesterday was a busy old day. I managed to blag a ticket to watch the One Day International at the Oval - big thanks to Chappers for that one. It was a lovely day for it, even if I was a tired mess! Met Chappers there just as he was about to do the on pitch entertainment dressed in the England one day kit (pictured opposite).

So anyway, left the cricket about 1pm to pop along to an award ceremony. I was asked if I would present an award at The Stroke Association's annual "Life After Stroke Awards". It recognises people who have had strokes and survived have rebuilt their lives. It was a fantastic afternoon and I met some incredible people.

Coldplay's single, "Viva La Vida" is currently number 1 in the UK's 'Hit Parade'. This is their first ever number 1 which is hard to believe eh?!

Anyway, have a look at what they've written on their website about it...Nice touch eh?!

Thought I'd give this a go quickly. Neil is currently answering the phones for the MP3 Game - the part of the show where someone has the chance to pick a song from my MP3 player. I thought I'd sneakily write an entry.

Not much else to say really, should get back to the big show really!

Reasons I hate London...

Greg James|08:05 UK time, Monday, 23 June 2008

I am going to do this as and when something about London annoys me...

Let's start it off with:

1) Why does every little news agent charge you 50p extra when you pay with your debit card?! It would have been an extra £1 if I was using a credit card too! What year is this? Why do they charge? Does it cost THEM any more? Why should I have to pay even more than their already inflated prices because they haven't realised that we're in 2008 and its quite normal that people buy things on debit card for under £5.

This clearly annoyed me. And its Monday. I hate Mondays - and not because the weekend's over, they're just boring days. Nothing good ever happens on Mondays. Its just people moaning. Oh wait, am I doing that now?

2) The Congestion charge. A stupid tax on driving your car in central London that comes into force 7am every morning. There are not enough signs telling you where not to drive so suckers like me get caught out with £60 fines. I want to live somewhere nice where you're allowed to drive wherever you like. Devon maybe? That's nice and quiet isn't it? Bit of a commute though.

Feel free to add your own reasons why YOU hate London...!

080626_fearne.jpgWhat a busy weekend! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being on the radio and covering other shows is fun but after a week of earlies, an extra 2 days is a real killer! Had good fun covering for Annie Mac over the weekend, its always nice to get an airing during daylight hours! Even if Fearne and I did fall out because I ACCIDENTALLY blanked her. We made up though.

Listen again to the handover at about 2hrs 50mins in... (audio is available until Saturday 28 June)

What's with not being able to get to sleep?! I hate that so much. I was all tucked up by 8:30 last night and didn't finally nod off until half 10! Arrrrrgh! So annoying. Ain't no rest for the wicked, eh?

Speaking of which, this is one of my favourite songs around at the moment and it sums up how I feel perfectly. Its by Cage The Elephant. Great new band.

Spoke to Producer Neil earlier, he's feeling very unwell - and so am I actually. We're having one of those pathetic days today. We think someone's drugged us to sabotage the show. Not sure who though. Any ideas?

I abandoned the "going to the gym" idea (surprise surprise) and am watching an old episode of Inspector Morse. Is it wrong that I'm enjoying it...ALOT?! Its perfect rainy day, feeling a bit rough entertainment.

I've got so much boring house stuff to do, bills, tax blah blah blah - can't be arsed. It'll wait till tomorrow!

I'm a mess today

Welcome along,

I'm sitting up at Dave TV HQ as I've just finished recording my hilarious links for next week's shows. If you didn't know, I'm the voice that pops up during the day saying "coming up next, Top Gear" etc.

There is a big TV in the Dave studio and it always shows a random TV channel on it. Today, its The Jewellery Channel. Random.

Coldplay in actionGood morning everybody! Welcome along to my second post (don't worry, I'm not going to count every post I do).

Before I begin, I must admit that I am a mess today. Was out last night with the family celebration my mum's 60th birthday. Had a lovely evening last night, so did my mum who was loving the attention. We wined and dined her at some swanky restaurant near Tower Bridge - which was nice.

Welcome along to my brand new blog. This is the place to come to discuss everything that happens on the Early Breakfast show on Radio 1. That's the show I do, in case you didn't realise.

Anywaaaay, welcome along. I'm new to all this, but it'll all pan out quite nicely when we're a few entries in, I'm sure. I'll be sharing with you some of the stuff I get up to after the show, funny things I might see out and about, and any other random stuff I come across on the Internet.

All sorts, its going to be an exciting experiment and all I can say is you won't wanna miss a post because who knows what I'm going to end up writing. I say this, because I'm nearly always tired and delirious.
