Friday 8 March 2013 is International Women’s Day; a day of global celebration marking the achievements of women past, present and future. Thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world, ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades and more.

For one BBC Children in Need funded project, it’s also an opportunity to show support for women and girls who face really difficult daily challenges like poverty, violence and exploitation.

Read our Who You Help Case Study about the Safer London Foundation's programme "EMPOWER", which is a support scheme for young women in the capital who are at risk of sexual violence and exploitation.

Safer London Foundation has come up with a way to show your support for the great work they're doing, by wearing the universal symbol for ‘woman’ - in the form of their EMPOWER nail wrap.

To get your Nail Wraps, email: info@saferlondonfoundation.org , then tweet a photo of you wearing them on the 8th March with the hash tags #IWD and #EmpowerAlways.

And this is the overall aim of EMPOWER: to remind vulnerable girls that they have an army of women behind them, supporting them every day. By getting people talking about the issue of sexual violence, we are another step closer to ‘nailing’ the problem.

I nodi Dydd Gwyl Dewi ar Mawrth 1af beth am ddathlu peth o’r gwaith anhygoel sydd yn mynd ymlaen diolch i’r 140 o brosiectau yng Nghymru sydd yn derbyn arian diolch i’ch rhoddion?

Mae BBC Plant mewn Angen wedi dosbarthu grantiau werth mwy na £7 miliwn i elusennau drwy’r wlad, o Sir Benfro i Blas Madoc, sydd yn delio gyda materion sy’n cynnwys profedigaeth, delio ac anabledd, amhariad, anghenion addysg, anhawster ymddygiad, effeithiau cam-drin domestig, bod yn ddigartref, a bwlio.

Yn Ysbyty Cyffredinol Maelor yn Wrecsam mae’r Doctoriaid Sy’n Canu (sef Cressida a David) yn ymweld yn wythnosol â phlant sydd wedi eu dewis yn arbennig. Mae’r ymweliadau yn rhoi cyfle i dynnu sylw’r cleifion a’r rhieni o feddwl am y dulliau meddygol a’r poen neu’r anghysur maen nhw’n teimlo.

Doctoriaid Sy’n Canu

Mae BBC Plant mewn Angen hefyd yn ariannu “Y Tir” – prosiect yn Wrecsam sydd yn helpu pobl ifanc i ddylunio a chreu canolfan chwarae o stwff i’w ailgylchu a sbwriel. Mae’r pobl ifanc yn dysgu sgiliau bywyd hynod werthfawr am rheoli risg, defnyddio’r dychymyg, datrys problemau a rhannu (gan hefyd greu lleoliad diogel a hwyl i chwarae ynddo).

Celebrating St David's Day

To mark St David’s Day on 1 March, we want to celebrate some of the amazing work going on at the 140 projects throughout Wales that are being funded thanks to your donations.

BBC Children in Need has awarded grants worth more than £7 million to charities throughout the nation, from Pembrokeshire to Plas Madoc, covering a range of issues from bereavement support to help coping with a disability, impairment, educational need, behavioural difficulty, experiencing domestic abuse, homelessness or bullying.
