Director, BBC News and Current Affairs speaks to BBC staff about the Future of BBC News

Today, Director, BBC News and Current Affairs, James Harding, talked to BBC staff about future plans for BBC News. The speech was given at New Broadcasting House in central London and also broadcast live to BBC staff across the UK via the BBC's internal TV service, the 'Ringmain'.

He explained why he thinks BBC News is 'seriously good', announced a number a plans for the news division 'broadening the range of stories and voices on the BBC', making a service that is, 'flexible, effective and faster on its feet.' Plans announced also included the appointment of a daily news agenda editor on-air editors dedicated to helath and education .

He went on to answer questions from staff.

Where Next? Director-General unveils future plans for BBC

Earlier on today, Director-General Tony Hall shared his vision for a future BBC in a speech given to staff and journalists in the BBC Radio Theatre in London. The speech was broadcast live on the BBC's staff TV network - the 'Ringmain'.

During the speech Tony made a number of announcements which formed part of his future strategy for the organisation including the launch of BBC One + 1, Playlister, the next generation iPlayer and a new way for audiences to access speech content from across the BBC's radio networks. There were additional announcements made about Radio 1 on iPlayer and a new investment in arts TV programming.

Ralph Rivera is the BBC's new Director of Future Media. He's in Oxford today addressing a seminar to open the new office of the W3C, the web's standards-setting body. Later we'll publish a fuller blog post by Ralph but, in the meantime, here's his presentation.

The seminar began with a presentation by the web's inventor, Tim Berners-Lee, entitled Future Directions of the Web. Speakers from Vodafone, Microsoft and the Oxford Internet Institute are also present. The hashtag is #W3CUKI.

Wired UKcovered Ralph's speech, focusing on the value of the BBC's digital content to the UK economy. Ralph made a speech on a similar theme at The Guardian's Chaning Media conference earlier this year.
