• Wrth gyfrifo arwynebedd, gallwn ddefnyddio sgwariau i helpu. Mae un uned yn 1cm, felly mae pob sgwâr yn 1 cm x 1 cm = 1 cm sgwâr.
• Hynny yw, os yw hyd petryal yn 5 cm i fyny a 2 cm ar draws, yna arwynebedd y petryal yw 5 cm x 2 cm = 10 cm sgwâr.
• Gallwn wneud hyn ar gyfer unrhyw siâp sydd ag onglau sgwâr.
• Os mae’r siâp yn mesur 6 cm ar draws a 4 cm i fyny, arwynebedd y siâp yw 6 x 4 = 24 cm sgwâr.

Notes for parents

• When we measure area, we can use squares to help us. One unit is 1 cm, therefore every square is 1 cm x 1 cm = 1 cm squared.
• *So, if a rectangle is 5 cm up and 2 cm across then the area is 5 cm x 2 cm = 10 cm squared. *
• We can do this for any shape that has a right angle.
• If the shape measures 6 cm up and 4 cm across, the area of the shape is 6 x 4 = 24 cm squared.

Os yw’r uchder a’r lled mewn cm, bydd yr arwynebedd mewn cm². Os yw’r uchder a’r lled mewn m, bydd yr arwynebedd mewn m².

Mae gan sgwâr sydd ag ochrau 5 m arwynebedd o 25 m², achos mae 5 × 5 = 25.
