This story is about Bunny Lo, 19, a British-born Chinese girl who is from Birmingham. Like other teenagers she has her dreams. Unlike many other teenagers, however, these dreams move between the Britain where she was born and the China where "part of her soul belongs." Bunny's been singing and dancing, blending the West and the East, for four years. Gradually she's building a following by performing around the UK. Bunny's father is from Hong Kong, her mother from Birmingham. She is British-born, brought up in this country’s education system and society. For her, there is much in this country that the whole world admires, but she also take pride in being Chinese and the wonders of China - she hopes, one day, to perform there. She's proud of her mixed cultural identity, she can't imagine what her life would be like without it. "At home with Dad we have always had to speak Cantonese," say Bunny. "He has never been able to learn much English, he just has a block where languages are concerned, and his Mandarin is not good either! "We often eat rice and Chinese food but it is true to say we also eat English food and I only drink water or Chinese tea. "We use chopsticks a lot at home, my mother said it would improve our Chinese writing! That was what her Chinese teacher told her at uni anyway!" Bunny: "I feel like Chinese School has really helped me with a lot of things in life, for example it not only opened up another world of linguistics to me, but it also gave me the opportunity to meet lots of other Chinese children living in the same area" "After completing a GCSE Cantonese and an course in Mandarin at the Overseas Chinese School I really wanted to take the Chinese language to the next level, which brings me to where I am today, studying a BA in Chinese Studies at Sheffield University. "Studying Chinese history, politics, society, religion, economics etc at university is a challenge, but I am learning a lot." Her studies are important to her, but it's her art that makes her truly happy. "I'm a bit of dreamer, maybe sometimes I dream too much, but that's probably what makes me." says Bunny.
