With materials donated from local suppliers and the support of over 65 Barclays employees, the day was a huge success. Changing livesOver 80 volunteers painted, tiled, cleaned and transformed a garden at two youth centres in Lozells - Young Disciples and the Lozells Recreation Group youth centres - in just one day as part of a CSV Make a Difference Day on Wednesday 25th October 2006. The success of the project meant the groups won the award for 'Bridge Building' at the national CSV Awards on Thursday 1st February 2007. Maggie Smith from BBC WM's CSV Action Desk was thrilled with the award: "It's delightful for the young people especially. Young people got together from different backgrounds and cultures and worked together. It's amazing." "The project highlighted unity between the communities after the troubles and reinforced the idea that young people in the community can and do work together in order to disable the stereotypical views of Lozells. "The Young People from LRG and Young Disciples visited each others centres with a view to enhancing the building the young people utilise.
