Tolkien spent 13 years of his childhood in the Sarehole area of Birmingham.

The Tolkien Trail Bus Tour leaves Sarehole Mill at 11.30am and will be lead by Tolkien expert Bob Blackham.

The guided tour will go to the author’s previous homes and areas and landmarks credited with inspiring elements within the trilogy.

Stops include; Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog, the childhood playgrounds of Tolkien, the exterior of 264 Wake Green Road and 4 Highfield Road, his former homes, and the extraordinary 30m Perott’s Folly Tower, which is said to have inspired the ‘Two Towers of Gondor’.

Councillor Ray Hassall, Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: “It is important that Sarehole Mill takes the lead in celebrating its links with one of the world’s most well known authors.
