It's not every day you get to attend a party hosted by one of the most important political figures in the world.

East Berkshire College student Emma a was one of 75 outstanding young people from around the UK invited to 10 Downing Street by Labour MPs as a special treat.

Emma, from Langley, was the guest of Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart, who introduced her to the Prime Minister.

Emma won the Governors Award, the top prize at the College's recent awards ceremony.

As well as being an excellent student, she takes part in many volunteer activities, such as the London Sailing Project, a charity that takes young people and those with disabilities sailing.

Knock knock!

She has learnt sign language to have conversations with deaf people she takes out on the boats. On top of this, she is also a Guide leader and an Explorer Scout.

Fiona met Emma at the awards ceremony and the MP says she knew the Prime Minister would be interested to meet her.

"He had asked MPs to invite young people who are succeeding in sport, study, or through volunteering.

"I know Emma does all three, I saw her with her guide troupe on Remembrance Sunday.

Emma's exploits did interest the Prime Minister, who Emma described as "really talkative".

Emma says of her experience: "He was asking about my volunteer work and how long I have been doing it."

She added that she had a great evening and she was impressed with how spotless and well-kept 10 Downing Street was.

Fiona says: "Emma is an excellent example of the positive contribution that many young people make to our community."
