As part of the new series the BBC offers you the chance to find out more about what you can do for nature and conservation in your area, with the BBC's Breathing Places.

Clinton's Hill, near Lily Hill in Bracknell, is a BBC Breathing Place.

Local volunteers from the Bracknell Forest natural history society have secured funding to develop the hill's natural beauty.

BBC Berkshire has been to Clinton's Hill to visit the volunteers and find out more about how you can help to change the hill for the better.

Former glory

John has been setting steps into the hillside to enable visitors to reach the top easily and safely.

John wants to make the hill easier to see

"So far we've put in two sets of steps and done some clearing on the top," he says.

"What we do is hit stakes in with a hammer, dig out the soil to get a flat bit to put the stake in, then nail the board to it."

John says the appeal of Clinton's Hill is that it won't take too much effort to restore the area to its former glory.

"This is a wildlife area that's just got a bit overgrown. It hasn't been touched really for 30 years and needs thinning out a bit."

Seating area

Gill, another member of the society, agrees.

"The woodland marked this hill out," she adds. "It's an extremely good wildlife habitat. There are badgers, foxes, insects and birds."

Gill is looking to develop the foot of the hill into a seating area for visitors.

"What we thought we'd do is create a seat and a bench, and we're organising an interpretive board to tell people where the path is and what they can find on the hill."
