Thames Valley University has run A level courses for three years and the mood there was a happy one. ![]() D in English? 'Re-taking's always fine!' "I did better than I thought," one student told me. And even a young lady who got a D in English was upbeat: "Re-taking's always fine." "Good news," another man told me. "I got a B in Chemistry." 'Did no work'Not everyone made the grade. "I didn't do as well as I like," says one TVU student. "I got a B, a C and a D. That was the worst case scenario. ![]() Waiting for the results "Now I'll go to Kent instead of York. I'll look into clearing but realistically there's no point, I've not got anywhere near what I needed. "I would have liked better but I know I've not done any work, so this is a good thing." 'Step forward'There's support on hand for students who need it, with TVU employing its own students to help out. ![]() Nicola Miller: TVU students lend a hand "We've got current TVU students answering phones, specially trained to talk about what it's like being at the university, and to calm students down," says TVU's Nicola Miller. Over at the John Madejski Academy, there was an 80 per cent pass rate. "The students proved they can achieve and now they're talking about going to university," says headteacher Catherine Shaw.
