Pakistan narrowly beat Scotland by 1 wicket, in the opening match of their British tour, in Glasgow. Rashid Latif won the toss and put the Scots into bat. With Shaoib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami left out pace bowler Shabir Ahmad staked his claim for a regular place taking 3 for 40 including India's batting star Rahul Dravid who was out to a first ball duck.

Off spinner Shoaib Malik's discipline bowling display saw him return figures of 3 for 17 as Scotland were dismissed for 169.

Pakistan made hard work of their run chase only Shaoib Malik with an unbeaten 52 which earnt him the man of the match award offered any resistance. The Scottish crowd sensed a major upset was on the cards but a boundary from 11th man Danish Kaneria saved Pakistan's blushes as they reached 170 for 9.

Scotland: 169 (45.1 overs)
Pakistan: 170-9 (47.0 overs)
