Mystery woman sought by garden
Woman in the National Botanic Garden of Wales
Staff at the garden want to find this woman
Staff at the National Botanic Garden of Wales are trying to track down a mystery woman who dominates a picture they want to use for publicity.

The picture was taken last summer after the gardens were saved from closure by a rescue package.

Visitor numbers swelled throughout the summer and marketing officer Owen Jenkins took hundreds of photographs.

But staff have been unable to track down the woman and are keen to find her before the publicity campaign launches.

"It is just common courtesy to contact the lady in the picture to let her know," explained Owen Jenkins who is the marketing officer at the site in Llanarthne near Carmarthen.

"I took a lot of pictures last year and this particular picture has been earmarked to be used quite significantly in this year's publicity campaign.

"But we really would like to let the lady know that we are using the picture," he said.

Mr Jenkins said that staff at the gardens were looking forward to a positive future after it was saved from closure nearly 12 months ago.

The site was 3m in debt and did not have enough visitors. There was also a row about how much public money would be used to save it.

But following an agreement from the Welsh assembly, the Millennium Commission and Carmarthenshire Council, a rescue package was agreed and the garden was saved.

"This time last year we were looking forward with some trepidation about the future of the gardens but thanks to the five year plan we are all feeling very positive now," he said.

"If we look back to this stage last year it was a whole different story.

"It came so close to closing but it is looking very good for the future."

But the latest challenge for the garden's staff is locating the woman in the photograph.

"We really just want to find her so we can let her know," said Mr Jenkins.

"I just hope she will contact us soon," he added.
