Atlantic crossing for pub crawl
Stag party
Ian Joshua and his friends chose Mumbles over Las Vegas
A Welsh expat and five friends from New York have made a 7,200-mile flying visit to Wales for a pub crawl.

The group spent less than 48 hours on UK soil so that they could tackle the 'Mumbles Mile' near Swansea.

Ian Joshua, who moved to the US eight years ago, wanted to celebrate his stag party in the village where he grew up.

The 32-year-old said: "The choice was Mumbles or Las Vegas and as I had not been back for so long, Mumbles won."

Mumbles is famed for its stretch of watering holes along the seafront and is a popular venue for stag and hen parties.

Mr Joshua, a former Bishop Gore Comprehensive School pupil, said it had cost each of them more than $1,000 for the weekend.

They touched down at Heathrow Airport on Friday and were in the sky again Sunday afternoon so they could all return to work on Monday.

"I wanted to show my friends from New York where I was from," said the University of Wales, Aberystwyth graduate.

"I have very happy memories of Mumbles and when I first suggested it everyone was up for it.

"Everyone who said they were going to come, came.

"It would have been nice to have a little more time to show them the sights of Gower - but we have a tight schedule.

"There is nothing similar in New York - the Americans wanted to see what it is about."

New Yorker Greg Kuchler was one of those making the trip.

"Ian told us it was a place that just had lots of pubs but it's a bit more of resort than I expected," he said.

"I've never been to Wales before and it would have been nice to stay a bit longer.

"The point of it is the stupidity of it and if you did not have the jet-lag it would not be the same."

Mr Joshua, a vice-president at a New York bank, said he would have plenty of time to recover from the weekend as he is not tying the knot until mid-October.
