A 12m five-star hotel development on the Conwy estuary has received a 650,000 grant from the Wales Tourist Board.

The hotel is part of the 35 million Deganwy Quay waterfront project, which includes a marina and housing development.

About 90 new jobs are expected to be created, with the majority at the hotel.

The marina is due to open next April, with work scheduled to start on the hotel next spring and programmed for completion within two years.

The Welsh Development Agency is reclaiming a derelict site for the hotel.

Wales Tourist Board chief executive Jonathan Jones, said: "As part of the overall scheme, the hotel with its proposed spa will have an important role in the marketing of the north Wales coast and will be to a Wales Tourist Board five-star standard.

"It will have high occupancy throughout the year and provide valuable new jobs."

The hotel will have 43 suites of between one and three bedrooms, all overlooking the estuary or marina.
