Sainsbury's will open in Welshpool in November |
Sainsbury's is to create nearly 40 jobs and safeguard another 10 after buying a former Kwik Save store in Powys. The firm, which plans to open in Welshpool in November, said rebranding work had already started.
Kwik Save went into administration earlier this year, but 56 of its outlets have since been sold, saving about 600 jobs.
Welshpool county councillor Anne Holloway said her constituents were "very, very happy" with the news.
Sainsbury's said the 7,400 sq ft (687 sq m) store would create 37 jobs for the area. In addition, 10 former Kwik Save employees will also be employed.
Euan McMurdo, of Sainsbury's, said: "We would like to thank customers for their patience during this refurbishment phase.
"I am also pleased to confirm that the 10 former Kwik Save colleagues will be joining Sainsbury's.
"During the closure period our new colleagues will undergo training in preparation for the opening of the new store."
Currently, the nearest Sainsbury's is in Shrewsbusy (20 miles) or Oswestry (16 miles).
Plans were revealed earlier this year to turn Welshpool livestock market into a supermarket.
The administrators of supermarket chain Kwik Save say they have sold 56 of the firm's stores for 18m, saving about 600 jobs.
