A �500,000 project to revamp Oswestry town centre starts on Monday. The first phase of work includes the rebuilding of the footpath and road on English Walls.
Two new mini roundabouts are among improvements being made to several junctions, and new traffic signals are being put up on Oswald Road.
Much of the money for the work came from central Government, with Shropshire County Council and Oswestry Borough Council raising the rest.
People living in the town were consulted about the plans last year.
The last stage of the first phase of the project is the reconstruction of Cross Street.
Work is expected to last about five months.
Jeremy Salisbury, Shropshire County Council's senior engineer, said: "Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be kept open at all times, and disruption for tradespeople kept to a minimum."
